I have a small block 68-72 K frame in my 67 Barracuda. Been in the car for over 30 years. The Addco front sway bar I used to have on it managed to break off the pinch welded lip on one side where the sway bar mounted. I have a factory front bar on it now, with a rigged mounting setup on it.

I'm about to rebuild the front end, and I have another K frame that I believe is either a 69 or 71, but I've had it so long I can't remember where it came from. A while back (probably a couple of years ago), I bought a Firm Feel reinforcement kit for it. When I was about to weld it to this spare K frame, the pieces in the kit didn't fit. Either they sent me the wrong kit, or the K frame isn't what I remember it to be.

So how do I ID the K frame before I go to all the trouble to pull the old one off? I don't see any numbers on it anywhere. I'm pretty sure it's a 68-72 K frame, but my memory is not as reliable as it used to be. Here are some pix. Am I right about what it is?

PS: I realize that I could just repair the K frame that's in there now by welding a piece to replace the missing part of the lip, but since I'm gonna have the front end apart anyway, it will be real simple just to replace it.

I'd say that is a 68-69 small block k-frame, as the 70-71 has a washer welded to the front of the frame...

washer welded on only on 340 cars - used on the line to differentiate between 340 and 318 on the assembly line.

OK, I was pretty sure it is a 68-72 K frame. Forgot about the washer on at least the 340 cars. My brother rolled my Mom's 71 Duster 340 back in the early 80s and I got a bunch of parts off it - engine, bellhousing, driveshaft, rear end, disc brakes, lower control arms, torsion bars and rear springs. I was thinking maybe the K frame, too, but neither this one or the one that's in my 67 now have the washer. ???

Anyway, I'm going to get this one powder coated, wanted to make sure I would be able to use it.

Firm Feel must have sent me the wrong reinforcing kit, but after all this time, probably too late to return it.

Make your own pieces. It isn’t difficult.
I made pieces from cardboard then traced around them on 1/8” steel, then shaped them to fit.

As stated, this is a '68-72 V8 K-member. Also, the Firm Feel reinforcement kits SUCKS. The pieces don't fit and there are no instructions.

I said what I did because of the sway bar holes in the frame pictured. Regular small block frames may or may not have those holes punched...

Every '67-72 K-member that I've seen had the mounting holes for the sway bar. Some '73-76 had the holes punched for the early sway bar in one half of the K-member.

My 68 Dart GT convertible had its factory 318 and no holes in the k-frame. I remember it well because I wanted to install a factory sway bar...
