For years I have told people about the issues and future issues of modern cars, but those stupid fucks don't believe me and think it's bullshit, even though I have the automotive training they don't have and have seen the potential problems. Drive by wire issues, electric power steering problems, dangerous auto start stop situations, I've seen it years ago. By design plenty of the computer controlled systems can be dangerous if there is a failure.
So, why am I talking about this now? 318WillRun @318willrun released a video about a situation where the whole computer controlled system just randomly failed possibly due to an update. According to 318WillRun the vehicle that had the catastrophic failure from a software update done with a cell phone, however I can tell you that it can get much worse than that. Many newer cars don't need to update via an app on your phone, but will instead use a satellite connection to automatically do updates from the manufacturer. That's right, no user action from you is required to completely **** up your day and put you in danger.
Of course some of us know about these type issues happening, but the problem is that it's not talked about enough. The other problem is that these issues are gaslighted by the manufacturer and media who will put the blame on the user or anything else not in direct relation to the manufacturer. Most people are now just too ******* stupid to believe the truth, even when it comes out of the mouth of an educated mechanic. So, that is why this topic should be talked about more often, especially now that companies are using AI to write code for them that could possibly(I'm sure it is) be already in use from the auto manufacturers. (For those who are not keeping up with the AI disasters, companies big and small are having issues because they put there trust in AI, which is why Windows 11 updates keep breaking things, lol.)

Watch 318WillRun's video and other videos on the related topic. If possible, get other automotive youtubers to talk about it too. This is not the only time this situation has happened or has been talked about, but it should be treated like old news every time it does happen.

So I'm driving my 24 Grand Cherokee yeaterday and all of a sudden every code on the dash lights up. Less than 20k miles. Took it to the dealership today, they cant get me in til Feb 16th. Fortunately the vehicle still drives, but it constantly rings alarms. WTF

I think about this on a daily basis. Just burn the transmitter out on a good day when everything's running well and put the nannies on 'ignore'.

So far, people have disconnected 4 antennas, and it still transmits. I believe if you took the entertainment and nav units out, it would be clean. I could do it, as I don't use either....but that warranty I paid for........

I blame some of this on the people, I say this because most are crazy over technology. No offense intended, but I don't see any real reason to bank on line, shop on line. Most say that they shop on line because there's no sales tax, well missouri is working on stopping that and I agree, a sale is a sale no matter if it's online or in person. If the box stores ever completely close down then everyone will be paying sales tax and high shipping costs, some on here already complain about shipping costs just wait until there's only online shopping. Think about it

I deal with this kind of bullshit on my 2019 Freightliner tractor. Random CEL activations, etc. We have a 2020 that's worse, I hate that pos truck.
Just one more reason why I don't have a need or use for any new vehicle. Newest one I have is a 2009 that I bought in November 2025, and am still working through all the 'bugs' it seems to have.

If cars have the ability to receive updates over the air....then you just know that down the track not too distant into the future, you'll be getting your speeding tickets instantly via email or text message.

The car will dob you in automatically. Over the air information goes both ways when it suits the Manufacturers, Insurance Companies and Law Enforcement.

But if you ever need to rely upon the information your car is capable of delivering in court for exmple....rest assured you'll be told "Sorry that is not possible"

Turn off over the air updates.

Here's how in a 2024 Cherokee according to AI.

You know those auto related apps and services people sign up for like GasBuddy, insurance apps and whatnot? The data they collect dat from your smart phone's GPS and G meter is provided to the insurance companies.
