But have you guys ever entertained the notion of buying a used roller cam?
saw this and though i might make an offer

paired up with a set of eq iron rams and stock 1:5 rockers. i know there are so many camshaft threads on here, but they usually end up with someone getting a custom grind.

Not unless you can hold it in your hands first. All my roller cams were ground on a billet core, I would not hesitate to buy a used billet roller. I have seen some sidi cores with scar grooves and gouges in them.

Not a stupid question at all. I would buy one in a minute. In fact, that's the only way I would buy one. That particular ad reads honestly. He has perfect feedback. Just remember, you will probably need a custom length pushrod because to my knowledge, all the Magnum roller stuff is ground on a different (smaller) base circle. I could be mistaken about that, but I think it's right. Either way, you will need to measure for correct pushrod length to confirm. Now, all that said, I would not buy THAT particular roller cam, because IMO he wants too much for it. Put just a little more with it and you can have a new one. To hell with that.

I have a rack full of used rollers. Usually not an issue. Lift won't be what's on the card as it's printed for a 1.6 ratio. Put it in a 10:1 360 and it would be a runner.

Looks to have a dist gear that doesn't require a bronze drive.

I think the price is on the high side. I'd offer 125 for it and see what happens. I've never paid more than 150 for a used billet roller

I don't know what a place like oregon cams can do with a stock roller core, I have a few. I can sell you one and send one it up there if you are interested.

thanks for the information guys. i know buying a used flat tappet would be bad, but i had to double check with rollers. i think i might make him an offer around where you mentioned and see what happens. thanks for the offer, but i have the stock roller that was in my 360m

Nothing at all wrong with buying a used flat tappet either. Inspect it well and if there are no failed lobes, simply put new lifters on it and break it in like a new camshaft. In fact, I just sent AdamR a very nice used Comp 268H that I would have run in anything. It was in excellent condition. It's perfectly acceptable to run new lifters on an old camshaft, as long as the camshaft is in good shape. But unless you know for 100% certainty which lifters came off which lobe with used lifters, throw them in the ditch and buy new lifters.

My rule of thumb has always been that unless I pulled the used cam and lifters myself and marked them, get new lifters anyway when considering used cams.

Just for reference, I don't believe you'll find any 1.5 rocker arms designed for EQ heads. Their basically magnum replacement heads and all magnum rockers are 1.6 ratio.
