From what I have been seeing so far, looks like it will kill both the Camaro SS ($31,000 msrp) and the SRT-8 Challenger ($43,600 msrp) for the low price of $29,700.

And when I say kill…….. I'm talking about everything. Road feel, handling, acceleration and comfort.

Even the V6 with 305hp will be in the 13s.

Dodge and Chevy need to step it up. Personally, as much as I like the looks of the Challenger, something that crushes it for $13,000 less would be hard to turn down.

my thoughts? the mustang kicks ***.... just saw one at the track running low 12's.

the camaro is no slouch either. v-8 with 400hp and also has a 300hp v-6.

the stang and camaro blow the challenger away. chrysler dropped the ball yet again..

all this car has is traction bars and an exhaust kit.. sweet *** car..

Challenger VS 5.0 a first hand look
So, as you may or may not know I work for Ford and our family owns a couple mustangs and a Challenger R/T and a Challenger SRT8.

Well when I arrived back from lunch today the guy who checks in the new cars was sitting in the service drive, I could see he seemed rather antsy the closer I got to him. Finally getting up to the place he was sitting his arm shot out and a key dangled from his grasp. "I have been waiting for you, I thought you might want to pull this one in." My heart nearly jumped a beat since the last word was the 5.0 was on indefinite hold until some QC or whatever issues could be worked out.
"yeah, we got two of them", he said.

I snatched the keys and nearly ran out to the parking deck and there sat two black 5.0 Mustangs; a coupe and a convertible. Becasuse there wasn't a tag on the vehicle and Roswell road in Sandy Springs can be teeming with squad cars I thought it wise to take it easy - I didn't make it out of second gear. I determined the best way to see what the 5.0 was all about and make a legitimate comparison was to, well, buy one. So I did. After getting several angry looks and a few comments from salespersons about buying the car before it even hit the showroom floor, I signed my life away and hopped in the car to drive 25 miles home.

How was it you asked.....UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE!!!
Talk about quick - that engine is a monster! and the ease to bang through all 6 gears was really, really fun. I was as giddy as a kid on Christmas morning. The vehicle felt very light and agile; my car is equipped with brembo brakes and the electronic stablilization package.

After driving the 5.0 I drove the R/T and SRT8 for a comparison. Sadly, performance wise there isn't much. I knew the Challengers were heavy but the quickness of the 5.0 makes the Challenger feel like it's made of lead. A lead brick - Just my opinion and experience. Seriously, you step on the accelerator on monday and by wednesday the challenger is starting to move - I wish Dodge could do something about that throttle. I have only started playing with the 5.0 but I can see we are going to have a great relationship. Would I trade a Challenger for a 5.0? Well, I still have both Challengers and have no intention of getting rid of them. Dodge did a great job with the styling and just wish they could have done a little more with the powerplants.

Well, my wife cannot drive a stick so she is driving the Challenger R/T now and I followed her out to the Avenues Mall in Cumming,GA. It was fun to watch all the people watch her drive by. The only time the interest was directed from her to me is when the on-lookers noticed the 5.0 badge on the side.

In a nutshell, Ford has a real winner on their hands here!

here is the same car in the 11's. think they put a little shot of NOS on it...

bang for the buck you can't beat the stang. plus i like that it has a 3 link rear suspension over teh independent like the camaro and chally.. chally's and chargers seem to destroy half shafts when they start making power. and thats not cheap to fix.

Good for FORD and Mustang lovers, but I don't care for Mustangs or Fords:thebirdm::thebirdm::thebirdm:. Old A bodies only for me.

I just saw a road test where a 2011 V-6 mustang went 13.7 @ 103, pretty sad when a Challenger R/T will lose to one of those. The Challenger is so dang heavy, it will need around 500 HP to keep up with the new 5.0

Do you guys seriously think Chrysler will just sit by and watch the Mustang walk all over the Challenger? Just give them a year or two, I KNOW the Challenger will be lightened and seriously up-powered. If they can get 404 HP out of the latest 5.7L Hemi imagine what they can do with 6.4L intended for SRT use... I'm guessing at least 525 HP for that, maybe 450-475 for the 6.1 if it stays around. Just look at what Chrysler is doing right now and its plans for the near future and they know they can't afford to let the Challenger be second-best. They would be STUPID to let the Mustang reign supreme indefinitely.

At the moment they are like 3rd best with the SRT-8 and over $10,000 more than the competition.

They really need to step it up.

I'm not a Mustang fan but the numbers coming out of the new GT are nuts.

my dad has a 2007 mustang gt 5 speed for a commuter car and isnt no slouch at 300 hp. runs pretty good for a bone stock car. now in 2011 over 400 horse at i think 7000 rpm. gonna be a nice car.

my dads 2007 gt gets 26-27 mpg, he looked at a challenger but he travels 100 miles a day and challenger with v8 is no where near close for mileage and at 3 bucks a gallon adds up.

I've always liked the challenger more than the mustang and camaro and it saddens me to see the top srt8 model get its *** whooped by a 5."O" mustang...dodge MUST get their act together, and off their "Ego" stand...the srt8 chally for a price of 42 grand is a complete rip off....they need to put that 6.4L in it, drop 500 pounds, and sell that for 34k to be even remotely competitive....if not that, the chally will disappear forever. LOL

yea i believe they will always bring up the rear. two years? are you kidding? know what the stang and camaro will in two years? they will be even better then they are now.. hell chrysler sat around years saying how retro was dead. until the retro mustang came out and were selling off the transport trucks..

I like the looks of the new mustang and the revisions they did to it OTHER THAN....I can NOT stand the rear end of the car...I think it looks stupid, mile high bumper, funky tail lights...I just don't like it

I agree, the rear design of the mustang looks like royal ****.....

The new mustang does look as though it's not something to mess with, but I would expect dodge and chevy to act on it as well. As was mentioned, they can't just sit there.

My thoughts about the big three "retro" musclecars? I don't want any of them... no matter what the price. They are all too big and heavy with more things than anyone could ever want in a musclecar. If I were to get a challenger, I would want a real one... same for the mustang and camaro (not that I want them, just saying). The only one I really want is the drag version of the challenger... unless dodge builds a stripped down street version with more horsepower and less frilly things.

If i was in the market for a new car the 2011 stang' would already be in my driveway..the camaro is ok looking..and the challenger well lets just say i don't like it..

Can't say I like it much. Never have never will. It is just to mainstream for me. That why I like my Dart. It is different and you don't see them on every corner.

Love the Challengers looks! I have driven a few of them so far, and they are very cool!

The 2011 Mustang seems to be pretty bad ***.

Randy Hopkings, a fellow Wisconsinite, he has been racing Mopars for quite a while now, anyways he went and got one of those Mustangs, did very little to it and he's doin 9's with it.

The Mustang's are pretty cool, but if I could afford either one, I would still buy a Challenger!
