Three on the tree?

My older brother drove 40s and 50s cars when i was a kid in the 60s. He always swapped the column shifter to the left side of the column so he could drive with his arm around his cup holder, uh, I mean girl friend.

I've heard this called a 'sweetheart shifter'.

My first truck was a 72 Chev 250 straight 6 3 on the tree I would only get 2 weeks at most out of a clutch , i was fairly hard on equipment back then . Now i realize why my father would never let me drive his rigs .

My first car was a 72 Duster. After awhile I learned I needed more space for the ladies and bought a 69 Chebby van, 250 ci, 3 on the tree. It was a delivery special with no side double doors. Man, I had fun in that van!!

When did we start driving lumber? I prefer to call il what it is; column shifted. What’s your opinion? Yes I’m a 65 year old fuddy duddy!
Always been three in the tree for me. U bought my grampa’s 72’ Chevy from him
in 1988; 3onthetree with a manual choke, and he added a manual gas lever as well. He gave me specific instructions, “Pull the choke out, pump the gas pedal twice, pull the gas lever out thiiiiiis much, and turn the key.”
80 degrees to -30 it was that starting routine and she NEVER failed to start.
The 3onthetree never got wonky Great truck. Wish I still had it.

@nutz Was it a 3=6 or a Junior? 50 years ago I was given 3, I took possession of 2, one was '57 2 door hardtop with suicide doors! I made it run once by dumping the mixture down the carb!

I have a 60 autounion 3=6 4 door with suicide front doors
Seen it on ebay...won the bid then realized that BC Canada was on the wrong side of north America....cost almost as much to ship it as a paid for it ...its the only unrestored one I've seen that wasn't seized
Then I found i rough 57 dkw 3=6 in long island ny 2dr for parts ...that cost more to cross the bridge with the trailer then I spent on gas.....wish the 57 was better shape
Thinking it would be cool to hot rod it
But all the glass is gone needed a fender and head light its a south cali car so mostly rust free

Somewhere I have a right inside door moulding for the '57. There's a guy in the Audi/Auto Union club that needs one but I keep forgetting to find it for him. I also have what I think is an NOS clutch cable.

I found a guy in Hemmings in Vermont, I think, who was a Deek guy and he came and we loaded all the parts I was given in his van and stripped the '57. He had a '58 hardtop and a combi and one of the fiberglass roadsters.
