Here's some pics of a few topless Mopar funny cars from back in the beginnings of funny car racing for your topless viewing pleasure.

Go to http://www.nhra.com/blog/dragster-insider/ to see pics of both Mopar and other brand topless floppers (somehow that doesn't sound quite right). These pics brought back lots of memories of both the famed Lions and OCIR strips here in SoCal.
Make sure to read the story about the Beach City Chevrolet Corvette funny car ending up on the Santa Ana freeway after one of its several disastrous runs. I was at OCIR that night and remember it well.
Also, take a close look at the pic of the Fiberglass Trends Corvette funny car. That looks to be long-time OCIR starter Larry Sutton in the cowboy hat. You can see just how close the pit-side stands were to the drag strip. That was in the days of the "push starts" and the "push start" lane was right in front of the pit-side stands.

Cool photos OC. Pretty strange looking but cool . They were a stepping stone to the flopper bodies we know now. Mopar's altered wheelbase cars started it all. Look what Garlits did with his 66 Dart. Looks like a dragster with a door slammer body. tmm

Looking at parked cars in background is almost as much fun.

I remember reading about them in Car Craft when I was younger.

 I told on myself
