IMO, tribute is a word owners use because they see clone as a negative term.

I consider a clone to be a car that very closely resembles the car it is to be a clone of. Example: 1971 318 Barracuda convertible restored to be a '71 hemi 'cuda convertible.
A tribute car could be a tribute to anything, including another car.
Example: The recent GYC "Phantasm Tribute Car," a lot of people were giving them crap because it was different that the original. Well, it was a Tribute, not a clone.

I was under the impression that a "Tribute" car would look like a famous car. ie, Sox & Martin car and a clone is a knock off of an original factory car.
