Trouble Starting

Hey guys. This may be a dumb question but I am having a brain fart and can't think. My car has been sitting for a while. Was going to try and start it. Battery I know is dead, so put the charger on it to get enough juice to do something. My question is since I had my gauges out, I have to have the voltage gauge hooked up to be able to start it right?

If your gauges are out, just use a small machine screw (bolt and nut) and connect the two leads together.

I usually take a screw and nut and connect the two wires that were connected to the ammeter. If you converted to a voltmeter, that is another story
