1972 duster 340, jerico trans, 5.57 gears, 9zx 30 slicks, stock unported heads, 1.88 & 1.60 valves, stock intake & T.Q. carb, 11.37 @ 115.50 mph, 1.49 60 ft, 3335 wgt

Good Lord that is some zippy times for a set up of stock heads, intake and a TQ. What about the lower end? Is the Jerico a 5spd?

5.57 gears. Now dats da SHEEOT right there!!!! LOL

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thats exactly what I was looking for, it's for my 74 duster that im beging to make a racecar out of:thumbrig:

No problem :glasses7:. Alittle advice though, Take those big *** bumpers & braces off the front & rear, make some aluminum brackets & install glass bumpers, you'll save a "solid" 180 lbs., The hood weighs around 67-68 lbs. but i left mine on, The front bench is very heavy also, Run a couple light weight racing seats, the back seat isn't so bad, I had all the metal on the car (includeing) the hood, Aluminum radiator, All iron 451 other then the intake, all the glass & hardware, the extra weight of the 8.3/4 & 727 trans & the car just weighed in at less then 3100 lbs without me. I'm 150 lbs., so unless your a heavy weight you can get the car down to a solid 3100 race weight, With this mild combo & 1.5s 60fts you'll have a solid 10 second car.

The next season i changed 3 things, Pulled the heads & home ported them but still kept the 2.08/1.74 valves, Dropped on a Weiand street D shaped TR & 2 holley 1850s, installed a comp solid 520/540 282S, right off the trailer in 85* soupy heat, my 1st. run on the leaner side it ran 10.87 @ 123.58 on a sorry 1.63 60ft. Hope this helps.

thank you again i need all the helpful info i can get, and what you are running is exactly what im shooting for, and exactly how im looking to build my car, ill probably stick to the first combo for my budget for now but i might try and home port my heads, how hard is it to home port?:notworth:

friends 71 Mustang Mach 1, me driving. 351C 2v heads 4bbl offy 360 intake, Holley 3310, Erson Hi-flow 2 cam, 1 5/8 blackjack headers and 2 foot glasspacks, 3.00 open 9 inch FMX trans stock convertor. 12 inch wide tires. 13.67 at 106. Dog off the line but picked up pretty good. His 4V heads were slower but could have used alot more gear. Never clocked my '68 340'd '65 Barracuda back then but I would regularly beat a stock 340 Duster in the 1/8 street race where neither of us wanted to go faster than about 70...and that was with a 7.25 SG rear, maybe 3.23 gears
Well, Rumble didn't state that it should be a Mopar, or that it should be your car (not just one you drove), so I'm going to dig out the time slips I have from when I ran my Mom's Stude when I was 17. (She had the head off one night before that, but she swore it was stock!)
Just bustin' 'em, Pishta. Couldn't help myself.

73 cuda bone stock 200,000 mile car 318/727/276 rear gears......what for it...... what ............High 19's.
That was my first time racing and allmost my last, between me trying to stage the car with my back tires :angry7: and then running that time, i just wanted to sneek out vary quitly and never come back.....but i stayed.:D

70 Grand coupe Cuda same package as above only with some tiny 22" tires on the back. look funny but ran in the mid 17's
Swaped 318 for a stock rebuild 340 with j 1.88 727 and 3.55 rear gears and normal street size bfgs on the back. ran 16 and then high 15" before i made a mistake and suck a valve thru a 60 over bore 340 block damageing head and cracking cyl wall:eek:ops:
Fresh 20 over 340 motor, J head when to x head, x head got rebuilt with small stem valves 2.02/160 sand paper rolled port for clean up only.
727 became a revers manual shifted valve body gears when to 3.91 and then slick were reqired. then 4.56 and 10" wide slicks got it down to a best of 14.10.
Note this was at a 4400 foot race track with a race waight of 3760

Deside i could breath to good, so i moved up to a 1/8 mile track that is a 6600 feet. ran a 10.10 and milked it all the way down to a best of a 9.68. my best 1/4 track, 1/8 mile et was 9.2esh
stock head 474/280 MP cam alu single plane with a 600 holley. 2800 rpm stall out of a 11" converter 4.56 gears, 26/10/15 slicks, super stock spring and race shocks in back, old bad shock in from:mrgreen: And race waight has gone up due to lard *** in the drivers seat!

Can't wait to get started on my stoker!!!

Rob, this is a fun thread. Glad you thunk it up!!!

Are you a hypocrite? You delete my post over the same thing. What does cleaned up mean? Box of tide and a scotchbrite?

Close to it. When they were apart, I used a steel tooth brush, carb & brake cleaner. Lap of the valves and gave it new springs. Click the link below and see the dinosaur thread.

No work on the bowls at all, no work on the guides at all. None, zero, zip, nada! ETC!!!

You stated "Bowl blending" here and in the 10 sec. thread. Blending is part of porting. Or is it you can port a head without blending anything and call it "Not fully ported" when everything was done but the blending.

It is a simple thread idea. IDK what is so hard about it. Correcting the head from a OOTB state is one thing, taking a grinder to the head and "Blending" is another. While a lot of the head remains stock, you did enhance the head, which is not the idea of the thread.

So are you now going to split hairs and ***** that this should be included and the thread direction should change and allow this. Don't push it.

Early 80's, I had a '71 Duster 340 auto w/ the following,

Stock short block w/ M.P. 284 -.542 Solid Cam
Stock J heads w/ fresh valve job and seats cut for M.P. Springs
Edelbrock intake w/ 750 D.P. Carb.
Reverse manual valve body & Vitar 4000 Convertor.
4:88 Gears in rear end.

Ran 12.0's all day long w/ a best of 11.88 - 114 mph.

Glenn

I had Mopar Performance remanufactured 360 short block using box stock Edelbrock heads.

3800 pound race weight, pump gas, 3.55 spool, 275/60/15 BFG Radial tires.
10.6@128

I had a "little" help from 6psi of boost and a 150shot of N20.:D

I wish I had my '73 4spd Cuda to the track before I toasted the engine.

MP 10-1 short block w/a 292 purple cam, Edelbrock RPM top half and hooker super comps into a 2-1/2 exhaust and 4.10'son a 27 inch X 8 tire. Launch in the street was a problem on street tires. I have seen full weight A bodies run low 12's with this package. 11's when striped down to run.

I had a 73 Charger once, 440, Torker intake, 850 Holley, 1.75 headers, .484 purple shaft cam, stock valves, springs, rockers, pistons you name it. Car weighed 4200, 4.30 gear and a high stall factory converter (10.75" IIRC) and 9" slicks with SS springs. It went 13.00 through a 2.5" exhaust system and 12.80 uncorked.

Later we pulled the heads and using the MP porting templates ported them ourselves and went 12.00 uncorked. That's a .80 second drop on the cheap as those templates didn't cost but about $48. Later I put the .590 cam and better springs and rockers on it, the 2.14 intake valve and with a Fairbanks 9" converter and 2.125 headers it went 11.50's. That was a lot of money for only a half second.

I get the gist of the thread Rob but in my opinion dollar for dollar porting is a much better bang for the buck than a lot of other mods. And you can do a mild port job yourself with minimal tools. Just don't touch the floor unless you know what you're doing.

Just sayin...
