Upholsterer finally starting on my 64 cuda seats

Exactly what is a "listing wire"? Never heard of that before...
They are wires/rods that secure your inner seat seams to the seat frame with hog rings.

Interior is almost done.:steering:and she is ready for cruising.
Everything is back in. Just need to get her out in sun to tighten up vinyl, place scuff plate by accelerator and put in seat belts and rear seat latch covers.
Deciding if I want to add under dash oil and water temp qauges and remove aftermarket radio PO put in.
Original radio actually works.lol

Archie Bell and the Drells?

I have a complete new interior with seat buns snd everything else for my 64 Valiant and I do everything on my cars but.....I've seen enough owner installed puckered seat covers and headliners for me to consider having them professionally installed. Maybe the secret is using new seat buns, I don't know.

You know it's funny, KosmicKuda. I had "Archie Bell and the Drells" in mind when I wrote the words "tighten up". LOL!!!
NOW... "Let's do the tighten up!!"

IIRC, they mention being from TX in the song. Houston I believe.

At least you guys get sun to tighten up your interior. I would have to carefully schedule when i do this because we seem to only get a few sunny days all year.

New seat buns are definitely best way to go. New material will shrink fit to old buns though if you re-install listing wire.
Most folks are just not patient enough. You have to leave em out in sun uninstalled for a day, then let car sit in sun with windows up for at least two days with interior installed.
They will shrink like man parts hitting cold water.lol

We have sun alright. You can't escape it, it tightens your upholstery then it keeps tightening and tightening until it cracks from all the ultraviolet light. I happen to love all the heat down in South Texas but it plays HELL with the upholstery (especially leather). I lived up in Cheyenne Wyoming for 3 years and thought I was going to die from all the freezing weather,.....couldn't wait to get home!!

I have the new upholstery for my 65 barracuda. I have had the thoughts about not doing the seats correctly. Went to a couple of upholstery shops in North Carolina. After receiving a quote of 700 for the two front seats to be covered, I'll take on the seats after I finish the rest of the car.I thought for that amount of money they should furnish the seat covers and all of the necessary supplies

No doubt. Best quote I got on my front buckets was $800 with me supplying covers.
Rediculous.

The same place would do a custom interior for the same price and they were furnishing everything front and rear.
They just don't want to use your material

Yep. Can understand though because they can't really warranty items you bring them.
It's the markup. $700 for covers I can get from legendary for $550 then an additional $800 for install. :bs_flag:

Very far from a pro and my work far from perfect but only have about 16 hrs in redoing mine and covers came with car when I traded for her.
Will take my before and after and spend the $1500 saved on hi-po exhaust system and 14"commando hubcaps if I can find em.lol

I guess that's like asking a professional body shop to paint my car with me doing the body work and providing the paint.

Keep in mind that the replacement seat foam is generic and is made to fit many mopar models. It requires extensive trimming to bring it to the proper size of the early A seats.

Even new non generic buns will need to be trimmed.
Early a specific along with other a,b and c body mopar seat foam is readily available. For $150 a bucket. Ouch.
Not gonna pay that personally.
Puchase upholstery foam from Michaels and repair as needed or create my own using old as templet

The pros use a thin plastic like a very thin trash bag. You cover the upper front seat with the bag and it makes it much easier to slide the new upholstery over the seat. You didn't say if you had bucket or bench seats??

When we skin a seat back or Arm rest on the 60's lincolns we use Dry cleaner garment bags , those super thin plastic ones. that way it won't make a crinkly noise when you sit on the seat or shift around.

if your foam is in fair shape it is much better to repair it than use new.
1. the shape on the new ones pretty much need work no matter what.
2. you can get the 1/2 or 3/4 thick foam with similar firmness and use contact cement and foam to fill in low spots or missing pieces.

oops forgot to add that you can use a 90 degree angle grinder with a "new" (yup has to be new) 80 grit disc and shape the foam to your desired shape easily. use slow light strokes and always "off the edge" just like in polishing metal trim parts.

3. even on tired foam you can build it up to look right.

4. take your time and work the wrinkles out and make it snug. You want it snug but not to the point that you see threads that stitch the pieces together, the looser the fit the longer it takes to look good and sometimes leaves permanent wrinkles in the vinyl.
5. don't be afraid to flat hand smack the vinyl around to align the seat foam to it.
