Upper control arm question

The passenger side upper control arm that I removed from my 69 Barracuda has an angle shaped piece welded to it. The driver side does not. A set of 1971 dart control arms that I acquired do not have angle shaped piece welded on them. Is this original or did someone add it for some reason? If original what was the purpose and should both control arms have the piece?

i have seen NOS arms with that piece welded onto them. chances are that one was replaced at some point.

I've never seen that before so definitely not a necessity

I have run across that same issue. Not sure why or if they are actually a matching pair or what. I just cleaned up a pair like that.
