Hello,

Placing in my 64 Dart a mid 70s 318 and 904 tranny.

I see talk about exhaust manifolds and that the driver's side is not a standard one. Is that exhaust manifold only NEEDED with power steering?

My car has manual steering and just looking to clarify what I have to get for exhaust manifolds to make this swap work.

Appreciate the help. Thanks.

i have done this swap you will need the right side manifold exhaust its a very tight fit with or without power steering. the driver side is shaped to fit a v8 into that small engine bay but you do need a 90 degree oil filter adapter so you can run your pipes over the k frame instead of under also you would need a new drive shaft because of the ball and trunion and an aftermarket shifter or factory mopar column

Slantsix64. This is exactly the info needed. What are my donors for the driveshaft? What aftermarket floor shifter would you suggest?

you can use the drive shaft from a 904 1966-75 a body its the kind that slips the back of the transmission in make sure you pull it from a 904 because 727 is a bit longer.

I would recommend a B and M shifter cable style all thats needed is to drill 4 screws and you can run the line thru an exsisting hole with rubber cap over the transmission tunnel. upgrading your driveshaft is a good idea because you get rid of the ball and trunion.

Also if its a slant six car you need to change the center link to an early a body one they now reproduce these. if it was a slant six car you can use slant six to v eight motor mounts from schumacher.

Also would recommend using 10 in drums (came standard with v8 cars) in the front if it was an original slant six car it has 9inch

last thing 90 degree oil filter adapter

You need a drivers side exhaust manifold that originally came in a 64-66 Dart, Valiant, or Barracuda with a 273 engine. That particular manifold is unique to the 64-66 early A body V8 cars. Passenger side manifold can be any center dump 318 manifold. Nothing special about the passenger side manifold. A driveshaft out of anything with a 904 transmission will work if you get it shortened, or you can hunt for one out of a 66 Dart or Valiant that came with a 904 and 7.25 rearend. Good luck.:)

OK. Now have the centerlink, torsion bars, exhaust manifolds, right angle oil filter adaptor, engine, tranny and driveshaft. Plus I have Kelsey Hayes disk brakes for it. Only big thing I know I still need is motor mounts

You need the V8 cable operated gas pedal assembly, or do you already have that as well?? So many people lately have been asking about this swap!!!

Oh, that's right Cosgig. It was on my list but forgot to mention it. Thanks ! And no, that's something I don't have as of yet.

You see my post above? the right mounts.

I would buy OE before these. ALL early K members are the same. Dont need schmacher mounts, they made a name for themselves by making mounts that let you put in a B or RB engine in a a body without swaping k member. Early A's did not come with a big block.

But if I buy the ones you refer to, isnt there some modification I have to make to the brackets to mount up the 318? Thanks in advance for clearing this up.

Nope, these will bolt right up. no modifications needed. 273, 318 block LA engines are the same.

Get the magnum manifolds from TREBLIG, theeyll fit and flow great. He sold me some for my swap into a 63 Valiant. Ive been out of the loop on getting pics together to put up.

You can use a 67 up A body gas pedal/throttle cable. A V8 one for the right cable length. just redrill 2 holes in the firewall for mounting and the larger hole for the cable itself to fit thru. The OE one is pretty hard to come by. (2) different 360 pans I've dealt with: the 876 has the sump starting ~2" from a plumb line straight down from the pan very front pan lip and the 392 is ~4". yes 360 pans will not interchange but just a heads up as the 318 pan in my 65 dart (not sure the #) had a lip that started ~4" back just like the 360 392 pan did. Someone will give you some more info on that issue if needed. If the mag manis fit I would HIGHLY suggest them & the 92/early 93 versions with the 2&5/16 outlets as opposed to the 1&7/8 restricted bend 273 V8 ones mentioned (I used them tho as that was all I had at the time. Worked fine for a DD. iirc the later mag manis also have 1&7/8 outlets.

Very good wrote up. Thanks! I have already purchased the 273 manifolds. This is dàily driver only and maybe some spirited driving on occasion but I'll know what's needed if I want to step it up to higher performance in the future.

Now the gas pedal option does help and I will grab that set up if I can't find the earlier stuff.
