Video from World Finals = Heads Up 340 Stock Mopars A Bodys in Mid 10's

It's a class, far from stock as out of the factory.
But it's still all good.

GTX John congrats to Jon going rounds. Wann, VanLant, and Line builders all represented very well!

It was a tough World Finals for us.
Last year we both got down to the Final rounds.

Jon made his worse driving pass of the year!
Our Demons are some of the hardest leaving if not
the Hardest leaving small block stockers.

He had the better 60 ft (1.36) but with his .05 RT
to Chads .01 RT = The cars were right next to each
other and Jon got rattled not expecting that. Our cars
like 6600 First to Second and 6800 Second to Third plus
7500 thru the lights. When we got home and check our racepak
data acquisition he had Reved both gears to 7500 plus on the chip which really
hurt his performance.
Chad ran 124 MPH to Jon's 123 MPH. Jon is not happy with himself (He should have been 125.5 MPH).

Chad is a tremendous driver and was on his Game (I have known him
since he was in Diapers and lived a block away from me).
Steve Wann who is the owner of the Cuda is one of the top Stock Mopar Builder in World if not the very best (He is a very good friend).

I am not taking a thing away from them as they were the best team at this race and
Stout performers!!
Stock eliminator is a war of a few hundreds sometimes thousands.

We will be at the Winternationals with Brand New Aluminum Head 340 engines that make some
extra HP (Hoping 25 to 30 more) and factor 311HP instead of the 314HP of the X heads.

That will also make our car 30 lbs lighter (Plus our wallets over $50,000+ lighter for the pair of engines not counting a month of both our time)!

Thanks for sharing the story ! I really like Mopar Stockers and Super Stockers and enjoy reading about and following them... especially A bodies.

John, do you run 727 or 904 TF? What converter do you use?( if it’s not a trade secret!)

Randi Lynn Shipp (AKA Rocket Shipp) just married Bo Butner (Pro Stock)
while in Vegas two weeks ago! You gentleman are looking at a Married Lady.

She is an extremely nice lady and our friend.
Makes you ponder how long before Mrs. Butner is banging gears in a pro stocker….

We run exclusively 904 Transmissions
Most Everything that rotates has been replaced
with Aluminum replica plus the planataries are custom
fabbed with straight gears with custom gear ratios for
different tracks. We run a proprietary 8 inch converter
that was engineered by Steve Wann.

Even our Big Block cars that have 727 have entire guts from
a 904 inside.

Changing from a 727 to a 904 with everything else the same
us worth a good tenth in 1/4. Putting a low gear out of a late 904
transmission (2.77 instead of 2.45) could often be worth another
tenth or more especially if low HP or high weight. After that the transmission
and converter work gets EXPENSIVE. Easy to drop $8,000 to $10,000
in the trans and converter.

A friend I knew for years that passed away (Walt Siler) had 904 transmission parts behind his 8 second small block Chevy Camaro.

Now that right there is determination to compete.

At the Mile High Nationals in Denver some
years back. I won a Heads-up Class final by
one ten thousand in F/SA against another 340
Car. that would be .0001 true margin of victory.
With the price of Diesel and entries for our four
cars we build added to everything else it cost
$4,000 to $5000 out of pocket to attend each National Race
(That is if nothing goes wrong). That is only that low because
we have great sponsors like Goodyear and Glendora Dodge!

In Vegas Nationals we won a couple years ago in E/SA and there
were 10 cars with less than a Tenth from the fastest to the very slowest.
Your difference in reaction times could mean any car could win in a class
race as there is no Breakout deal with.

You do not want to bring a Feather Pillow to a Gunfight!!

I can honestly say I’m glad I’m a bracket racer. A big money three day race for three 20,000.00 purses cost me about 1000.00 if it’s out of state.

The way NHRA has been hemorrhaging sponsors with contingencies,
and the rest either very slowly or finding excuses to not paying period =
If we will the race - we still will not make any money and would be lucky
to break even. Yet the Stock/Superstock pits (Other Sportmans pits too)
are filled with Million Dollar Toterhomes and Stacker Trailers. It is becoming
a class of Millionaires who swing Fat Checkbooks with Insane budgets!

Mopar used to pay $500.00 and a few goodies for "Top Performer" and
we won that more than about anyone, but they have discontinued that
now.

Twenty or Thirty years ago (Nearly a Dozen Track Championship),
we used to actually make a few dollars at this
Hobby - if we did not have any major breakage that year.

Back then you could walk through the Stock Pits and see guys in
their old Jeans and calloused hands that had Blue Collar jobs and
worked an extra day to be able to go racing.

I even won $10.000.00 back then with a 63 Dodge "Max Wedge" that I had less
than $3,000 invested in.

I would probably have quit years ago, But it would break my heart to see my Enemies
win any more than they already do (Tongue in Check)!

Stock is an amazing class that I dream to one day compete in. Each and every car is a work of art. Its an elite group of racers dedicated to their craft for sure!!
