has anyone had a windo pop up that says you have a virus but you really dont so they get you to try and download somthing! it looked legit for a bit because they had my exact same virus detector but im running avg now and its stying no viruses i almost installed it has anyone had this happen

Yea never click on thoes. chances are if it pops up out of know where you dont want to mess with it. I heard that thoes add viruses to your computer.

if you get one, it will eventually go away.. at least mine did. if i had one come up i didnt click on it, but i restarted the computer.

avg free even is a good antivirus program.... I use mcafee though...my internet service provider offered it free...so I use it lol.

If you get those pop ups, never click them...do not even click cancel, thats how they get you....even if you click cancel it ads spy ware on your computer.....always click the X at the top right corner of the window and exit it all together...I have been working on computers for a long time so I am not BS'ing here.

I personally know what to look for in the archives of the hard drive to know if something is on my computer and if I need to delete anything .

In your case, if your computer starts acting up you should be able to go to start, accessories, system tools and system restore .....and you can restore your computer to a time prior to the virus (if you get one)....depending on your version of operating system the process to getting to system restore may be a bit different.. but that gives you a general idea anyhow

If he has the same one I had. It was preventing the computer from connecting to the internet.

This happend to my dad last week twice and he didn't do anything until I saw it first. I also hit cancel and it started to download something until I closed everything and started over. So far it seems fine right now but wonder if I was too late thou.

I remove virus's as part of my job. I'm a double agent for geek squad. I go to homes with computer problems. We run a scanner when we start working on a computer of a suspected virus. I took a talley of these scans. Between mid 2008 - mid 2009 I went to 96 suspected virus infections. 36 were actually infections. The rest were just slow computers and needed cleaning up. Of those 36 the people had Norton, Mc afee, AVG or nothing at all. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was 7-8 each. Then some other virus protections had like 1. What I'm trying to say is if you have one of the 3 listed above get rid of it. Norton and Mcafee slow your computer down as well as the fact that they don't do a good job. In the 5 years working at Best Buy I've never been to a house with a virus that was running SPYSWEEPER WITH ANTI-VIRUS. You can get it in a 1 or 3 user licsence for 39 or 49$. Well worth it. To remove a virus I have to charge customers 299.00, it sucks because if they'd spent the 39 in the first place I would be there.
