I have a chevy 383 that is starting to experience a bit of blow-by.
I'm wanting to put together a spare short block for when the time comes to replace it.

I have the chance to get a set of CP gas ported forged flat tops and 6" rods at a very good price. They utilize a .043 ring, where as your standard ring is .080 and the normal performance ring comes in at .062.
These pistons are used alot by the roundy round dirt track guys who freshen their engines every year.
Would I be looking at longevity issues with this piston/ring combo?
This engine would be used in an airboat application that sees sustained 4k+ rpm's.

I know there are some knowledgable non-mopar specific builders here..lets hear what ya have to say.
Any worth while input would be appreciated.

It's my opinion that with the long stroke/short rod and resulting short piston, that a narrow ring package would not be the right choice for an airboat. The street car 383s I was involved with had piston noise, and eventually a drastically shorter life. In daily drivers, they were pretty used up after about 20K miles. That was not sustained rpms like you're talking.

Thanks moper.......was hoping you would chime in and confirm my concerns.
