out of the blue I started getting this horrible noise coming from my 360. I know noises are hard to explain but it sounds like a blender and is almost louder than the engine itself. I thought maybe an accessory pulley bearing went bad so I pulled off all the v belts and started it. But the noise was still there. It's hard to tell whether it's coming from crank pulley/balancer or from rear of engine in the oil pan or something. I was driving my dart home when this happened, probably a 2 mile trip and didn't notice any power loss but was very irritating and definitely not a good sound so I haven't driven my dart. I've seen a post on here with a similar sound but the guys crank had snapped and his crank pulley was able to be moved back and forth about an inch or so. Mine doesn't have any play in it so the crank is safe. (Hopefully) Any ideas as to what this is?

Check the torque converter bolts, they may have came loose.

Hook a mechanical oil pressure up, what is the pressure reading?

I'll check the bolts. I don't have an adapter for my oil pressure guage though. And I don't have a test gauge.

Could be as simple as loose starter mounting bolts. Good luck

Get a scrap length of hose, fuel, etc, hold up near your ear and probe around. If the sound does not seem to localize as you probe around, pull the oil filler, and the PCV valve and stick the hose up against or into those holes.

I checked all the flexplate/converter bolts they were all tight and fine. I found the stud the starter sits on had snapped, maybe that's what it was? I lock tighted it and screwed it back in. Could it be converter making that noise?
