Well water question.

Our well is 175 feet deep. It has the sulfur smell and high iron content. The smell used to come and go and we got used to it. But, the iron would come out of the solution and stick to my wife’s blond hair, turning it strawberry blond. She complained about this for years! I finally bit the bullet and bought this $3,200 hydrogen peroxide injection system (the parts circled in red are what I’m talking about). The hydrogen peroxide makes the iron come out of solution so it can be filtered out before the faucets. It also entirely neutralizes hydrogen sulfide, so there is no longer any smell to it. Also, we stopped using our salt recharge water softener because the hydrogen peroxide system does even better on its own. I no longer have to carry 40 pound bags of salt to the basement. Now it’s just carrying 2.5 gallon jugs of 7% hydrogen peroxide.

I recommend replacing the sacrificial anode in the hot water tank first and if that doesn’t solve your smell problem, you may be looking at a more expensive solution.
How much does the jug cost?

Yup! That’s a problem….

That white pipe is our well casing.

Or “was”…..

WELL... if it didn't have dirt in it before, it sure does now! Jesus..
(LOL!) No ****!

Turns out someone put a coupling ABOVE the pitless, so anytime the pump was removed, the pitless connection could (and DID) catch the coupling, the end result being what you see here.

Had to replace our pump a few yrs ago, about23 yrs old, The well company said who the £<€¥ put this in? They didn’t put lube on the area where the pump rests in casing. They tried to pull with some force while bfh ing. So had to dig down a bit and cut and repair

They just backed up the boom truck and are about to pull the top and pitless connection right now. Hopefully that won’t happen here, but the!guys have been talking about it…..

Not looking good here, Pete. Pump is completely stuck in the casing, 80 feet down, and they can’t get it to budge.

They may probably have to drill new well
Fortunately we’re good to go! They dropped a camera down and it looks good.

Best part is, the old pump was 3-7/8” diameter (in a 4” pipe), but the new Grundfos pump is 2-7/8” diameter (made for iron pipe wells), so it’s dropping right in!

After they finish up here I get to go to work chlorinated the system. Again.

Great news! I had to replace my original well when the broken pump got stuck down at the bottom (175 feet down). Cost $2,500 to drill a new one in 2004. It was money well spent to get an updated well and pump. The original one was drilled in 1971 and it did not use a pitless fitting.

Finally got around to installing all new filtration, plus a spin-down filter. Never had one before, but that sucker is cool!

Spending the rest of evening (what’s left of it) sanitizing the system….again, and I’ll bleed everything out tomorrow morning.

solderless fittings for the copper tubing? do you have the tool to o-ring it or rent it? work have it to use?
nicely set up!
I borrowed the ProPress from work today, and the fittings are all from Menards.

It was kind of fun, in a way, as I showed my wife how to use the tool and I just held things in place. She loves that kind of stuff, and once she got over her initial fear of it she really enjoyed herself!
