Well, won’t be racing anytime soon

IF you still want to race, you have your answer. You could also simply buy a 408 short, and continue that way.
if it doesn't interest you anymore, then put a mild short in it, keep it to drive and have fun with, or divest, your choice.
I'm 72, I STILL want to race, BUT.... two local tracks within 20 miles closed in the last three or four years, and interest tends to go away when the nearest track is two to four hours away. (2 hrs for a 1/8 mi, 4 for a 1/4). Oh, except for the one ten minutes away I can't use. F#@k the nhra!

What chain did you use with the tensioner? If a double roller, which with your deal is much more likely than not, that’s why it ate the guides. I hate those things. They do have a place and it’s either on a stock engine with a link belt type chain, or in the trash can.
Don’t remember, when I get the timing cover off will check., i had bought it used( short block) with one season of street use on it while the guy was getting his gen 2 hemi finished for his 67 Belvedere.
I sat on it a couple years , then took it to valley performance and had them pull it apart, check everything and bush the lifter bores.
I don’t remember if they put a new chain on it, or tensioner or both, or not. I know they left the rod and main bearings alone, said they were not needing replaced. Guy had tubed it and ran a roller and W2 heads on it. Somehow the bottoms of one bank of lifter bores were wallowed out, thus the need to bush the block.

I love to race. My issue is literally getting everything around to go, it’s become harder on me. Once at the track I am fine. I will be 70 this summer. Arthritis bothers me a bunch.

Man can I relate to that! My tractor is down and I have everything to fix it but it's HOT. I may get the lights out tonight.
115° in my garage at 5pm yesterday. Cooler today, only 105°
It's okay. Working on trailer lights I cant see in daylight anyway. About to go outside to see what I can see......

Put A.C. in it. I put a furnace in mine and bought a 12,500 btu cooler to put in the wall. Getting old we need the extra comfort.

Ooooof! I just saw this and hope the damage isn't too extensive. Definitely take your time and make your decision. From my limited observations, a milder street/strip car seems to have a higher value if you plan to sell. Although I've liquidated most of my stuff (big and small block) let me know if you're needing something in particular. Come to think, I do have that 9.5:1 cr R3/W8 lol!

I feel your pain after having my motor out for the fourth time in 3 years I was real tempted to sell everything and pursue my dream of putting a Hellcat motor in my D150. It seems like every time I race something else happens , bad alternator a few weeks ago , bad battery ( not even a year old ) etc. Last time I took the motor out a month ago I thought something was seriously wrong but it turned out to be a broken flex plate. I am 71 years old and semi retired but I still work part time to keep busy and make some money for racing. I have been racing for over 40 years , many of my racing friends are older than me and still going they give me the inspiration to keep going ... a few more years at least . If anything I might cut back a little and enjoy my D150 more .. cruise nights, shows etc. but as a racer I can only tolerate that so much. I hope everything works out and the damage isn't to bad.

I’m only 62 and I had a plan and built a street/strip car I could drive to the track, race and drive home. Then both tracks close to me shut down so I’m back to trailering my car to the closest track which is about 3 hrs away. So much for that.

C'mon Don, it's in your blood. That car is too nice to just give up on based on a motor rebuild. You can do this- get the engine pulled and to your favorite shop for a rebuild and you'll be racing again in no time.

Thanks for your location, it tells us you have a bad attitude.

If ever.
Long story short noticed oil pressure low last outing last year( couple test and tune hits in October.
Fresh oil and filter, started it up cold, seemed OK, put it away.
Got it out this year, got some temp in it, oil pressure was back to lower than normal, not good.
Get the pan off, good bit of the timing chain tensioner is laying in it, bearings are shot, rods and mains, rotor scored up in the oil pump. All in all not a happy day today.
So now I have decisions to make( just retired first of June)
1. Fix it
2 sell it as a roller
3. Sell it with top end, headers, trans and convertor included

This all sucks big time!

Yeah when the toys break it always makes for a bad day. I am guessing a small block?

What car do you have it in?

I live 8 miles from my local track, 60 miles to Indianapolis Raceway Park, and I stayed home in the AC. I can't take that heat like I used too.

If you think i have a bad attitude about the nhra, you're f#@kin-A right!
We had a street legal program so ANYBODY could use their f#@kin track, but they sacrificed us little guys so they could have a party at pomona in the middle of the year.(which was prohibited by their agreement with L.A Co.) As part of the negotiating process the street legal program got axed. The nhra has never given a damn about their non-pro racers, so F#@K EM!!!

Not talking about NHRA. Look at your Location handle. Get over whatever hate you're holding onto.

Don't make snap decisions ,let it sit and come back to it later. I sold a few cars when I rushed the job and got frustrated when something went wrong. Selling a car that nice would hurt later.
Build or find a shortblock and get rolling in time for fall weather. Too hot for that now. Racing should be winter sport as far as I am concerned.
