I never thought I'd ever post to the body thread but here I am. I shot some primer on my engine compartment this morning. I'm surprised how close the color is to my faded original color.LOL Eventually I hope to paint the body a different color (because I really don't like the original color) but until then, what color should I paint it? Should I leave the primer, paint it the original color, or black (one of my exterior color choices) or do you have a better suggestion. I also like burnt orange for an exterior color but I'm afraid it would clash with the red engine color. toolmanmike

Hmm tough call toolman. That car would look really good in black. Or in one of the crazy bright colors available. lol. Hmmm....

Original color! Please, please, please Don,t paint it black, anything but black. What color are you thinking about changing too?

^Pettybludart has a point. Too many black Darts of that body style. LOL. That and that color is really unique. I have never seen a Dart that color ever.

Burnt orange or black. Burnt orange looks great on the outside but really clashes with the red engine under the hood. How about B5?

Body color. I would pick out what color you want to reaint your car and shoot it like that. That way you only have to paint it one time.

Mike I guess mine is old B5?maybe B3??It,s really faded and I like it looking the original paint color.Try a search for Chryslers Glacier Blue.If/when I repaint my 66 Dart,it will be Ice Glacier blue.Good Luck. Here,s a pic of the Glacier blue I got in a rattle can for doing the underhood after blasting. Before and after pics, hope you like the color.:-D

I'm with you guys, body color under the hood. I don't like the Chevy black unless the car is black of course.
Scott, yours looks like B3. A very nice color which is lighter and more silver than B5.

Ugh I didn't realize the vote was for an engine bay...change my vote from "black" to "body color".

The polls really need a description of what you're voting on, I assumed it was a vote for a car color.

Thanks 451Cuda. I changed the title. toolmanmike

Wait till you choose a color for the car and paint it that color ....... then your done with the engine bay.... then on to the next part of the car. never never never never never paint it black......... unless of course the car is going to be black. I Like the silver, and golds for that year myself. Copper would look good.

Body color under the hood! Even with other modifications, that is a true mopar thing to have it match! Make your choice of color.

decide what color you want to paint the car and paint it that color. whatever you do don't leave it primer. the dirt and crap will ruin it.

Hey Mike, years ago I painted a 69 Mustang a 83 Escort color. It was charcoal grey Irid, was a really nice color and almost looked like it changed colors in the sun.Just a thought as your car is grey. Some really nice grey, grays and silvers out there now.Good Luck!

I am tossing around this problem too. I know that Ma Mopar painted the enginge compartment body color. I am thinking I might have it painted white with a flat black hood. And a white engine compartment just does not do nothing for me. The few that I have seen just kind of looked odd to me....

PAINT IT TO MATCH!!!!!!!! here is mine....can't go wrong with plum crazy purple with a good hemi orange v8 to offset the colors!.....you don't want your engine color to blend to much with your body color in my opinion....you need something that stands out.....as chip foose would say its the "jewelry box effect" you want to open the box and let the diamond shine.

My dart is actually "Gold Poly Metallic". It's a little gold and a little green in certain light. There are wuite a few new cars that are similar.

I 100% agree with Ma Mopar and I think the engine bay should be car color. I'm not a fan of the original color so I don't know what to do until I decide to paint the whole thing. Some colors just don't look good with a certain colors of engines. Quite a few of you paint the engine car color which is OK too.
