ok, since most FABO people are really smart as to what to do in a lot of different situations:

I was at a park this morning doing my stretches and walk......I was sitting on a bench and I didn't even notice anything out of the ordinary. There were some people around, and when I left the benches......a man came up running behind me and said "miss, you forgot your phone on the bench you just came from!!!"

This really surprised me because I don't have a cell phone so the phone he thought was mine is obviously not mine.

So he handed it to me and before I could tell him its not mine, he just said in a hurry "have a good day" and went running back to his family. He apparently didn't think anything about my deer in headlights look of surprise about the whole thing.

So I went back to sit on the bench to see if someone came back looking for something lost.

Twenty minutes later, the place seemed to clear out and no one was around.

So now I have a Samsung Galaxy phone......a beautiful device that looks like new. It is password locked and no one has called it at all, in all morning.

Do I take it to the police or the phone company or take it back to the park and leave it on the bench????? what is the right thing to do? I don't want anyone thinking I took it when I didn't even notice it and the man handed it to me. I didn't want to just leave it there this morning because it was drizzly and plus what if someone takes it and does not try to return it.

Well, since you can't get to the contact list to call "home" or the "wife" etc, I would just take it to the cop shop and drop it off with them.

Lots of times people will call and ask if someone turned in something.

IF someone calls it in the meantime, you could answer if it will allow you to, and explain what happened.

That's a 700 dollar phone, I'm sure they would love to get it back.

I tend to agree. If you can determine who the provider is, you can TRY contacting them, but even with the local Verizon boneheads, probly just easier to drop it at the nearest cop joint.

Do you EVER have an uneventful day? My entertainment is just following your stories.

it should have a service providers logo on it. t-mobile, verizon, etc. if you take it to one of the stores for that provider they can track the phone to the owner. most people have a email on file.

my wife lost one of those....we have another year to pay it off :( nobody turned it in.

Ouch! That's why I pay cash for mine, I upgrade every two or three years. I have to keep up with the kids, lol (actually, I do it just to pee em off!). Of course either way I'm out the money if I lose it.

$700!!!!!!! No phone in the world worth that....wow I agree with the others take it to cop shop

I thought that too, for a long time. Mine was just a shade over 700 after grabbing the heavy duty case to go with it. But, since I'm on the road a lot, and have a lot of dock time once in a while, I can pass the time with it.

I can surf the www, take pictures that are really pretty good and email them home so when I get there, I can just save them if I want, find loads to haul, emails, mine even has a stylus and a built in notepad so if I want to jot some things down and I have no pen and paper it's right there in my phone. Watching Netflix is a great asset, I can pass the time that way as well, movies, MASH, Blue Bloods, etc etc

The park borders the city limits and the county ....favoring the city side.

The city police didn't want to take it, they acted like it was my responsibility to find the owner.

The county sheriff took it and said they would take of it and make sure it gets back.

so, the advice of FABO and turn in it to the cops was the final way I went....thanks fabo.

............U could of possibly put it on the radio stations lost and found.......but then again u wont know whom u r dealing with ...........kim........

the kid was probably hitting on you
its most likely his own phone and he'll call later tonight to pick it up
then to show how thankfull he is he will insist on buying you dinner (it is a 700 dollar phone after all)

brilliant plan :)

I like the idea of the cops handling it since you never know what kind of kook shows up at the door. While it is seldom Inrun into such wacko's, it happens from time to time. I just hate when the show up at my door. Even worse when there selling stuff, LMAO.

Cops were a good move.

Hmmm....mine doesn't.
