I am rebuilding my '73 318 for my Dart Sport. I have a chance to get a set of pistons for an '85 motor for very little $. When I was looking for pistons I saw different listings for '68-'84 and '85+ pistons. Does anyone here know the difference? Thanks in advance for any help you might have for me.

In the mopar performance book it's say the pin height for 70-84 1.74" and 85-91 are 1.76" which would give you a little CR bump same as milling the block 0.020" but a lot of people say those number are inaccurate in ether case they will work.

Is there much of a worry with piston to valve clearance with these engines? I am going to be running a Comp cam (XE262) with .462 int and .470 exh lift. I am using my factory '73 heads with standard valves. Do you think I will have any clearance issues if I use the '85 + pistons. I'm sorry that this is all so redundant, but I just want to be sure. I am on a tight timeline for this build, and want to avoid as many problems as I can. Thanks again

no problem..max lift occurs went the piston is way down in the bore...

That cam in an otherwise stock teen will be just fine. You really need to start paying attention to lift when you approach the .500 range with the stock pistons.

I run a 268 in mine which is a little less lift than the 262 with no issues. Just make sure to use the recommended valve springs and follow the proper breakin procedure.
