I'm sure my old tube of testor's glue and paints are pretty much dried up. the paints I could revitalize with thinner but not the glue. What are you guys using nowadays? a friend used Harbor Freight super glue and Rustoleum paint with built-in primer. any other favorites?

That's a good question. I haven't built models in years. But I've done some fairly recent model railroading. I use super glue on some things. But when you do, you need to paint over the glued joints with a liberal coat of paint. Moisture will make super glue release over time, so it needs to be sealed. I don't know of any specific plastic glue that's worth a snot anymore.

You might be surprised by the glue, I have a few old tubes of Testors that are surprisingly still viable. The smell takes me right back 50 plus years! Or maybe that's just the effects of the resin or whatever it contains!

Or maybe it's the vapors dissipating some brain cells. LMAO

I remember this stuff:

Worked like donkey poo.
Gotta be careful with Crazy Glue- it's kinda like Anti-Seize inasmuch as it tends to get all over everything sometimes.
Most hobby shops carry these, which work okay:

but the price will surprise you... around $20 last time I got any.

Paint will depend on what you're building.
Tamiya has good stuff for dioramas, weathering, chassis, interiors and stuff like that.
For car bodies I like to browse through the fingernail polish aisle at WallyWorld. You'd be amazed at how closely some of the colors match up to what you may be looking for. Thin it out and spray it on with an airbrush over a couple good coats of primer, as some nail polishes can "craze" bare styrene (basically a laquer).

I've collected a few bottles from the Dollar Tree when I stop in. should probably take an inventory and see what I might need.

Someone mentioned horrible freight stupid glue. 3 tubes in a package hanging out as impulse buy display. I found all 3 tubes dried.

I have used duplicolor rattlecans from the parts stores with great results
rustoleum, too but stay away from the 2x stuff. sprays way too thick.
rustoleum crystal clear rocks pretty well over decals
and it's testors black square tube for me

which primer did you use for the Duplicolor? I thought it was lacquer, or was that the old formula?

I used the enamel stuff, and the anodized on chrome paint
sprayed over chrome paint
I use rusteolum grey, or flat black as primer

you are right, ya gotta watch out for some paints

always paint a spru or 2 first
melted an engine with engine paint I had (make it look more real right)
sprayed, came back, a gooo ball was all that was left

Tamiya Extra Thin is pretty much the norm these days. Tenax 7R was the choice of fast setting styrene cement but they went under and the formula bought out and repackaged as Styrene Tack-It II. I also have a stash of Model Master Liquid Cement #8872 when I need to do some heavier work. It's more gel than liquid. I don't know if Testors is still rebottling it. I rarely use super glue on anything that isn't mixed media as it doesn't work the same as styrene cement.

As paint goes the hobby has pretty much embraced acrylics. With some 300+ tins & bottles of enamel in the stash I'm pretty much married to it but the choices in acrylics are many-Vallejo, Ammo by Mig, Mission Models, Mr. Color, Gunze, Tamiya, AK Interactive and it seems there's a new manufacturer every week. Lacquers are also an option that's on the rise as they're easy to use and dry fast.

Airfix latest release of the 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I as flown in combat by Jeffrey Quill, the Spitfire test pilot and someone who probably shouldn't have flown combat missions, Aug. 1940. Paint by Colourcoats (enamel):
