Who has gotten "trapped" in Roku hell?

If the closest TV to you is an hour away (How hilley?) that would indeed require a rather large antenna. Don't discount, tho, that Houston might (likely) has the same shows we are talking about here. Here the local "main" channels are 2, 4, 6, CBS, ABC, NBC, and a sort of Fox affiliate, 28. And PBS which I hardly ever watch anymore, because they have gone all left liberal, all the time.

All of the main channels have "sub" channels broadcasting old shows. I rarely watch the "main" channels. Might be worth it to you to look into it.

No idea if Netfix still mails. I gave up on them back when I discovered the company was actively liberal and supporting Doh' bang'ho

Looks like they do, I discovered before the ad blocker "blocked"

Yes, Netflix still mails DVDs — here's how to sign up for Netflix's DVD Plan, and rent movies with no late fees

I have a Roku and use it from time to time as we have shut off the cable years ago. For most of my ‘free TV entertainment’ I just go to YouTube.
Been watching Have Gun Will Travel episodes. Richard Boone was the man.
Will post a link later today.

Have Gun Will Travel Full Episodes - YouTube

free no commercials, well written stories, I have seen some written by Gene Roddenbery.
In guest star roles, how about young: Charles Bronson, Jack Lord, Angie Dickenson,,,,,

There's movies and such on YouTube as well "if you can find them."

You can get **** Hub for free on Roku.
I'd tell you how I know but you wouldn't believe me.
Roku is great, but a lot of the channels will glitch out from time to time. I have found that it's worse with older versions of Roku.
I have a Roku TV that seems to do a better job than the external devices. It updates at least once a week it seems. It does the updates overnight and the only way I'd know is the notice that pops up when you turn it on.
I've had better luck with my Amazon Firestick. I've got one that's "jail broke". I get channels I had no clue existed. I got mine from a computer science major at school. I'm willing to bet there are others here that might know a guy.

I was going to build a Linux media box years ago and never did. "I guess" I should get busy. Spectum, much as I detest them (and their joke email service) boosted speed (and rates) here so at least video streaming is pretty reliable.

And then likely buy the newer Roku box.

I'm watching "Harry Brown" (Michael Caine) on Roku right now LOL

LOL just a brand name of a TV/ internet box. It sorta changes a "dumb" TV into a "smart" one.

I have 4 ROKU boxes and 1 Sony. Android based TV. The fact that the Sony is Android allowed me to download the Kodi app. Kodi allows me to watch movies that are still in theaters and a lot of channels that are not on my YouTube TV. You can watch entire seasons of shows and all seasons are available. Started to get into a lot of TV shows that I've ignored over the years. You will have to add add-ons to do this (like Exodus or The Crew etc) you can go to YouTube to get instructions on how to load them. It takes a little time to learn how to use Kodi but it's worth it. Oh and I recommend that you use a VPN if you install Kodi.

I have an old Sony box, bought at a thrift store. I think "I forgot" because I found the remote and it does not seem to work. I THINK I ordered a replacement remote on egag but misplaced it. Sooner or later, I will either get it working or reject it. Did not spend much on it. It's called a "Network Media Player" SMP-N100

There used to be an integrated Kodi-Linux distro but seems Ubuntu has dropped it First time I tried that distro I had no idea what in hell to do with it. In other words documentation on ALL this sort of thing needs to be much better.

You ought to consider doing a "how to" thread.

I will see what I can do. If you have a Android TV you can get Kodi through the play store. Also will work on your Android phone or tablet. You can cast to your Roku box or smart TV.. I will find the link for adding the add-ons on YouTube. I. will see what I can put together.

Just a few of the Kodi Screens.

Wife's youngest son is 28 and between him and his wife have 3 degrees. They are country types like us but I guess I will wait till they get modern tech and go hire them for TV work, and go from there!! LOL
We watched John Wayne in True Grit last night for the 53rd time!!!!

Thanks. The broke ribs thing has slowed me down. I did spring for a Roku Ultra and it's about 8.7392 times faster than the old Roku2. So that turned out to be a huge help. Also I have an old Sony Media Player, and found another, newwer model off egag for cheap. I'm gonna experiment with it. See if I can find a "hack" and "root" (jailbreak) the thing.

The "kid" gave mom a Roku for birthday.
Few days ago, before birthday day, she gets a big bill from Verizon for internet use.
Last year fiberoptics went down the road with their line, in 5 weeks they will hook us on. \
Then we can use the ROKU!!!
Screw Verizon and their internet. She will still depend on them for cell..

But if you have Verizon for internet..........the Roku still makes use of that!!! ???
