Who is using Grand Cherokee rear disc on 8 3/4

Question for those that are using the GC backing plates on a 8 3/4. I have the backing plates, new style green bearings with snap ring and retainer plates for the bearings and after mock up with the Liberty calipers and rotors everything lines up great. Question is, are you guys just butting the backing plate up against the bearing snap ring ? I`m concerned about the somewhat sloppy fit between the backing plate and snap ring. Aren't you guys worried about that super thin snap ring working its way through the backing plate and losing an axle ? I can see bolting the bearing retainer plate on the outside of the backing plate as kind of a safety but if that snap ring gets through the backing plate im not sure the bearing retainer plate would do much good. Are you guys using a larger snap ring on the bearing or just trusting that cheesy thin snap ring to hold it all together ? Thanks for your help!

The Mopar Action article was photographed and published on the forum. It uses tapered bearings, not Greens, though. It's designed for B/E-Body 8.75" axles, which have a different brake spacing than A-Bodies. It also also requires some modifications of the caliper bracket or custom axles

I believe adapting these brakes are much closer to a bolt on with 8.25" axles.

There are a few threads on FABO detailing member's swaps. Searching for these will turn up most answers OP is seeking.

Thanks, been searching the forums pretty hard but haven't seen anything on modifying the CG backing plate or snap ring when using the 8 3/4. Hoping someone who has done this with the 8 3/4 it will chime in.
 
you have to machine part of the backing plate down to either .125 or .100(?) in order for it to work on the 8.75

as mentioned above, i believe this only works with the big bolt pattern axle offset.

Thank you, thats some helpfull info. Still hoping for someone to chime in thats actually done the coversion to the 8 3/4.

@RLF Cuda , the original poster in the thread linked did. Also @TALK ABOUT IT is the one who did the swap that was the inspiration for the article. But he hasn't been on FABO for a few years.
 
Back in the day I did a Ford 9" rear disk brake swap from a Versailles.
The Versailles had a cast/forged bracket that bolted to a bracket that was part of the bearing retainer give or take.

I took a drum backing plate and cut out the center then welded flat bar stock around it to form a surface to bolt on the cast/forged bracket to. It was simple and worked like a charm.

The modern rear disks have the drum parking brake so a backing plate is needed to mount the disks
