Who Owns a Blackstone Grill ???

I've been thinking about buying a flattop Blackstone grill and wondered if it would be a fun addition or a pain to deal with?

Mainly I think I would like to make Smash burgers on it, but I am sure there are lots of other uses that I am not thinking of.

What say your grill master's?

I bought a griddle to put on the charcoal grill. Way cheaper than buying a Backstone unit.

We have a Traeger, charcoal grille/smoker and a Weber gas grille but decided to get a Blackstone for the house and we rarely used it. It ended up being a rusted mess and got tossed. I then bought one for the motorhome and absolutely love it when camping or at the race track. Still haven't used it at home though.
 
Great for breakfast with bacon, pancakes etc.. But a pain to clean before use because of the bugs congregating and dying on the surface. I have a cover, but it doesn't help much with it outside in Missouri. Proper conditioning/tempering/seasoning can make or break it for your experience.
 
I did buy everyone at the plant I run a 17" portable Blackstone which is a great size and economical.

Char-Broil here, charcoal/wood burner, adjust able fire level, adjustable smoke outlet and air inlet, segmented cast iron grills, front door opens for ash removal or fuel addition, a smaller grill area attached to lid full length of lid and a third of the width about 4" higher than main grill. Those metal shelves I drilled for

, perty handy for the designated BBQ tools. For charcoal Cowboy Brand has a couple good mesquite varieties. If I want to get oakey with it, I'll use Kingsford for the consistent heat and throw some oak bark on top of it.
 
If you have a grill already, you might look for a compatible, well reviewed cast griddle that you can test run. Weber makes one for my 3 burner, but the reviews are not what I would expect for the name brand inflated price. I found a just less than perfect fit but solid piece for half the Weber price on Amazon that I'm learning the griddle ropes with. A little more work than basic grilling on grates but those are really hard on over easy eggs.

First of, I hate gas grills
If your going to grill on gas, you might as well cook it in the oven, and if you cook it in the oven, you might as well have the wife cook

Now, having said that, about 8 years ago we moved into a new house with a little cuddy for a gas grille

I was not about to go out and buy a gas grille but somewhere I ran across a Blackstone and though, well, that's kind of cool

Only issue is, they are jetted for propane and I was going to plug it right into the existing natural gas line

So I called Blackstone and told em what i wanted to do, the Girl i talked to was real cool and send me a single burner to experiment with...free of charge

Once i wrapped my mind around it, it was as simple as rejetting a carb (and i guess its a popular mod, because they now sell rejet kits)


As far as the grille itself, i absolutely LOVE it
I never, ever made breakfast on a charcoal grille, but ill go out and name breakfast on the Blackstone all the time

Pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausage, eggs, you name it

(Side note, a friend of mine has one and often times makes habachi rice on it)

Oh, you got kids ?

Show of hands if you've ever made kettle corn on the grille

Just me?

Guess you need a Blackstone for that




Now, as far as cleaning goes, this is what I do, after I'm done cooking (and sometimes this is a day or two after) I fire it up, full bore

Once it's good and hot I pour water on it and all the grease just bakes loose

Keep pouring water until it boils white (the grease will be brown or yellow, white is just water)

At that point I wipe her down with a few paper towels and while still hot I hit her with "Pam grille spray" or whatever it's called


Now, I have a metal lid for it that fits nice and tight over it, pop that down and never had any issues with bug, or critters or cotton wood fuzzies or whatever

Truth be told, I only use the charcoal grille when we travel now

I had one for a moment, but got rid of it because it seemed to be a propane HOG. Back to the old reliable charcoal grill for me!
 
Got one, love it. Great for breakfasts, anything you use cast iron for, smash burgers are always a hit.

Using tonight for some fried rice.
 

I have one. It's a fun pain in the ***.
In my teenage years I was a grill cook for Bob Evans Farms (back when Bob Evans was still alive and hadn't sold off the restaurants to the hacks that own it now) and I can make most anything on it.
I can do anything from breakfast to dinner with this thing. I won't cook a decent steak on it though.
It's a pain in the ***, because it needs to be cleaned with every use, and seasoned a couple of times a year. You also have to be mindful of the grease trap, or you get a mess on your deck/patio.
Otherwise, it's a great addition to my grill.
 
I've got a Weber natural gas grill and put a flat griddle in it like shown above. It's great for breakfasts, smash burgers, veggies and other food that can't be cooked on a grill. There is some maintenance involved though. You've got to keep it clean and seasoned. My buddy has a Blackstone and he cooks on it several times a week. We take it to football games to tailgate. Makes everything from omelets to stir fry!
 
We have the smallest tabletop one. I clean it and basically reseason it after every use. Because of the humidity down here, If I don't it will rust quickly. I also clean before each use too, because as mentioned, it does attract bugs. Also as mentioned, It's a total PIG for propane. But is works well. It heats quickly and evenly.

Oh and one more thing. You certainly can cook charcoal grill style hamburgers and steaks on it. Just throw some smoking chips on the back of the griddle and they'll smoke whatever you're cookin. But use small chips and put them on dry.

We have a BlackStone Griddle and we love it. We Cook Smash Burgers, Hibachi-Steak-Chicken-Seafood-Rice-Vegetables and so on. Bacon by the Whole side!
Breakfast any way you can think! We also have a Pit Boss Vertical Pellet Smoker. We cook Pork Butts, Beef and Pork Ribs, Chuck Roasts, Large sides of Fish
Brisket and sometimes all at once! Then we have the tried and True WEBER Table top kettle grille! We cook Ribeyes, Pork Chops, Boneless Chicken Breasts,
Burgers, Dogs, the things we crave over real Charcoal.

We feel like we need all three and we use all three monthly and usually one or two a week.

Oh yes, we have a 17" Blackstone for the road as well!
