Why is it ? Selective moderating

Maybe I just don’t get it. Why is there a rule that comments or conversations in sale ads are forbidden? It seems there is enforcement of said rule just because said rule exists, and then to complain about the amount of work to enforce said rule compounds the ridiculousness.
You answered your own question.

Here's a good example. How about a "Where can I get one of these" threads. You know the ones. "Who sells these?"

I can almost guarantee that someone will comment with "I have one I'll sell you" Well folks, now we have a sale thread and it started out with a member just asking questions about "where" and not "who has one for sale". In this case, do the right thing if you have something the OP may be interested in. Send him a PM and offer it. These grey area threads drive us nuts because there is no proper way to handle them without someone getting ticked off, us looking like asses, yet the rules get followed. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
Plus, everyone seems to forget there are a LOT of "us" and so FEW of "yall".

I was the one complaining about closing reports. It just ads to the work involved to correct an issue. If the members would just follow the rules there wouldn't be so many issues and fewer reports for us to deal with. Depending on how much I have going on, I may not explain myself or my moderator actions. It is written in bold print in the sale rules: We reserve the right to delete any ad or post for any reason or no reason, without notice or explanation. We may use that as needed depending on the circumstances and we really shouldn't have to type a multi paragraph explanation as to why. (like I am doing here)
2 important things come into play when someone comments. #1) Comments clutter up an ad. If the prospective buyer has to sift through unnecessary comments and conversations, it distracts from the ad and the items sold. #2) Every comment bumps the ad to the top of page 1. First off, bumping sale ads is also against the rules unless you are a Gold member and they can only bump once every 3 days. That keeps things fair for sellers. Your ad doesn't stay on top of page 1 while everyone else's ad get's buried back on page 10 and never seen. It's all about being fair to all. @A56, did you get your question answered? That's why we're here.

Thank you for this portion of your response. Everything else was unnecessary. In an open market products that are more desirable get more comments and should be bumped to the top of the page. Fairness is a joke. Clutter is a non issue, reading multiple pages of threads is what we do here. The ONLY reason for the bump rule that makes sense is that gold members are allowed to bump for sale threads. That generates income for the site. Now we know the real answer behind the rule. My position is the same.

If we would all just keep the garage door closed, and the trash can behind the fence outta plain site the mods will find something else to mod about. Kinda like the general discussions turning into a forced start a wanted ad this looks a little too similar.. Or the clogging up threads when ads expire and you gotta create more threads.. Very much a do this don't do that, walk this way not that way. Or let's be a gold member to bump ad's/post emails in threads.. They complain about more work for themselves, but who creates more work?

Many forums don't allow comments or questions of any kind on ads. Joey chooses not to run his forums that way. It would surely be easier if it were that way.

I’m not interested in how “many forums” operate. We are speaking about this forum and the reasons for rules here.

We (the staff) didn't write the rules. We are here to keep the forum running smoothly within the rules the site owner has set. You guys asked and started the conversation. We commented to try and answer your questions about it. We could have easily not commented or just closed the thread. That may happen soon anyway.

You don't have to be a gold member to bumb your add.
Any OP can they just have to add pertinent information or change their price.

We understand that Mike, it’s the childish responses from mods when asked for the reasons behind enforcing rules. It’s an open conversation had by (hopefully) adults.

"We" Understand running and maintaining said site is a huge undertaking. What I feel "We" have a harder time grasping is the constant changing scope and parameters all dependent on said mods "Mood" that day. IE when things are not liked mods lock threads or lock members out of threads. If "We" should all be adults then lets be.

Can you give a specific example, and not just a generalization.
If a topic or member is locked out, the administration looks at it and if it's felt a moderator was wrong it is reversed.
If not it stands.

Here, this thread right here is a good specific example. Mike’s post 38 is a glaring example. Why would this thread be closed for no other reason than you not wanting to have the conversation with us?

Unnecessary response.

While he may have “failed to add” because he’s “human” it’s still contrary.
So mods should be robots? Do you never omit something by being human you neglected to post?
