I'm going to be removing the front and rear windshields on my 71 Scamp to finish the body work and paint the car. These are the original glass with the little penta stars on them. I was thinking of buying a new front windshield but retaining the rear. What is the best place for a replacement front windshield and the weather stripping? I want to install the windshields with the same factory style weather stripping.

Also when removing the glass should I just cut the gasket with as razor knife? Also, I saw this done before where some one uses their feet with slight pressure to pop out the glass while another person catches the glass from the other side?

I havent put them in yet, but got my gaskets from Dante's. Precision brand, looks very much like original. Got my front glass for $130 off EBAY. There's a couple guys selling PGW glass and they have a list of locations where you can pick it up.

I did remove my front glass. Just pulled the insert strip and cut the lip off and it dids not take much to push it loose.

What does the insert strip look like?

I'd also like to use what Ma Mopar used for sealing the gasket to the body. Do you know what they used?

i would cut the gaskets out and get the glass out with the least amount of pushing or prying as possible. I recently got my windshield from AMD thru summit racing. it cost me $250 shipped. I got the gaskets from Steele rubber. I got them on Ebay to avoid there stupid shipping charges,.

I tried to get the gasket on ebay. the only problem is no one lists one for a Scamp. What is the windshield frame from, Duster, Dart, or all on its own?

Are you gonna install it yourself or have a glass company install it?

the scamp window is the same as the dart 2 door hard top. i am having a shop install the glass. that is black magic to me.

From my experience.. A new windshield is worth every penny.
40 yr old front glass is surely sand blasted, and likely scratched, and cloudy too.
I tried hard to not break one before. After the new glass went in I was glad I broke the original.

Just to be sure, a 71 dart 2-door HT? Asking because it seems the 71 scamp got a lot of the left over 70 Dart parts lol.

The insert strip is about 1/4" round rubber rope. I got that from Dante's when I bought my gaskets. Got new clips too.

What was used originally? based on the one I took out... Not much. Which is probably why they often leaked

I got 3M Windoweld 1/4" rope and urethane in tube from Summit. Basically the gooey black rope seals the gasket to the metal flange. The stuff in the caulk tube is cement and actualy bonds it in place. I have never done one, so not going give any advice on how to actually do it. There are plenty of threads on it. some put the gasket on the car first others put it on the glass. Some people use rope. Some use a plastic tool. Some start at the top, some at the bottom Anyway, I will be re-reading a few threads on here before I do mine, but I'm waiting for my vinyl, which I recently figured out needs to go on first.

I'm not doing a vinyl top but I have heard that if you need to do a headliner that's the time to do it. I unfortunately need a new headliner and am dreading replacing it.

To remove front and rear, I had a fancy windshield removal tool that sort of worked, but I ended up doing most of it with a razor knife (the kind that you just put the real whole razor blade into that you can retract). I was real careful and just kept cutting out as much rubber as possible until I was able to cut around the windshield underneath it so it was effectively no longer attached to the car. I then just pushed gently around the edge from inside until I could tell that each section was completely detached. I then took suction cups on each side and with 2 people, lifted each side out just enough to grab it, then lift gently together until it's out. The trick is to just never pry it hard, just cut loose, then lift out. I didn't really need the suction cups, but since they were there, I used them. Could have pushed with one hand under and grabbed it with the other just as easily.

I'd say it took maybe an hour, hour and a half tops for each window to remove. I think if I did it again, I could do it quicker than that.
