Hey guys how is everyone doing? I'm new to the forums but wanted to share my experience so far with self fabricating the wiring harness for a 1970 Dart Sedan.

You might find something interesting and or informational since the project has cost me a little over $200 and that provided me with enough materials to make the harness and extensions for the entire car.

The first photo was the condition of the harness under the dash. My mechanic told me that he's surprised I didn't set myself on fire 🔥🔥🔥

It's really not too bad, definitely worth the savings. I just finished the trunk, dash, and lights. Take a look. Just waiting for fuse box to come in for install.

Ghost,
I cant say enough that you have done a great job and shown that even starting from scratch its not that difficult. Just keep good records.
I would like to suggest getting a Brother Ptouch and since your connectors are built already at least "flag" your lines. If you have more to build you can get some 1/4" labels for it and use clear heat shrink tubing over the labels and put them along the length of the wires. The pic shows both types

blue, thank you! It really is not hard. I'll be quite honest. I have everything annotated! I followed the original wiring diagram and made some very minor modifications. Thank you for the suggestions, I'm most definitely going to take your advice for future projects.

Blue where did you get that "fancy" braid you are using?

67,
I got what is called "Snakeskin" at a place called "Altex" they call it expandable sleeving in their catalog.
Here is the link:http://www.altex.com/Expandable-Sleeving-C11017.aspx
You can use 1/4" for up to 1/2" bundles of wire you just loose the length as it expands.
Because Altex is local I get it as I need it, keeps me from ordering bulk and spreads the cost out, it's a little pricey.

Thanks for tips blue. When you mention 1/4" labels, you were were talking about for the brother label maker correct? Might be making a harness for my bike here in the next week or so....

As the "King of Obsolete" says, THANSK

Yes, the labels can be had on E bay for about $6 either as 1/4" or .23". Im on my third cassette of the 1/4" labels.
