    Interesting ballast resistor article.

if you run a pertronix setup, with a pertronix coil you dont need your resistor. the coils are internally resisted.

    Dash lights

did you make sure the gauge cluster is grounded? if you dont have it screwed in, the light wont be grounded and wont work. just a thought.

    Dual electric fans, FIRE!

you want to run the battery power through the relay to the fans, make sure to run a fuse or breaker. then you can use a 15 amp circuit to run through your toggle switch and out to the relay to turn the relay on and off. its actually easier with an aftermarket harness. i had extra circuits in my...

    Dash lights that dim

in my opinion its sounds like your getting alot of voltage drop at idle. probably just your typical old dirty corroded connections. it all adds up. a rusty connection here, a dirty connector there. if you plan on keeping your car and driving it a lot, i would suggest an aftermarket wiring...

    brighter head lights?

all i can say is relays relays relays. the voltage drop from running your headlight power in the car to the headlight switch, then back out to the headlights is killing you. i run my headlights through relays and run h4 lights in my wagon. people complain how bright they are. they tell me to...

    Wiring Harness Pics

year one sells the correct electrical tape. it isnt sticky. but it clings to itself. thats what i used to wrap my wiring. i personally think anything else looks cheesy.

    Bulkhead connector ideas?

when i rewired my car, i just cleaned pulled the wires and connectors out of the bulkhead connector, and then just pushed the new wires through the holes left behind. this way it looks stock, but there are no connections to get dirty and build up resistand and catch on fire. the best thing you...

    headlight relays

yep. well worth the time. everyone always asks me how i got my headlights so bright. and when i start to explain that i put relays in and try to tell them about voltage drop, their eyes just start to glaze over. haha

    wire harnesses

if you have a wiring diagram and your old harness to refer to, it wont be too difficult. buying all the different color wire may get a little expensive, and all the terminals that go in the plastic plugs get a little pricey. and then you need a special crimp tool. (about 60 bucks on ebay) if you...

    New wiring!

yup, i've heard that too. good luck with your project, and keep us posted. oh yeah, we also like pictures here. hehe

    New wiring!

hey, hows it going? i rewired my wagon with an EZwiring kit. its just a universal kit. the only problem is everything has gm plugs on it. like the ignition switch and stuff. so save all the connectors from your stock harness, then you need to get a bunch of terminals and the crimping tool for...

    darn electrical

sounds like a good time to go through and inspect/clean connections. and for what its worth, i was always told you should carry a spare ballast resistor in your car since they go out without warning and they can be changed easily on the side of the road. i opted to rewire my valiant with an EZ...

    wiring

its time consuming, but when everything works, its very rewarding. you may be able to find a copy of the wiring diagram on the internet somewhere, but i like having the service manual, so i can make notes on it.

    wiring

deffinitley get a factory service manual for your car so you have a wiring diagram to refer to. i rewired my valiant with an aftermarket harness, but you can just copy yours if you want. just pull it out and set it on a workbench, you are going to need to buy whatever terminals you need and the...

    where are the grounds

i like to run actual ground wires. on the wagon, i ran all my grounds to a terminal strip, then ran one big ground wire (8 awg) to the battery. it cant hurt it. less resistance is better.

    Headlight Conversion

yep. the headlights are wired right off the battery through the relay. you are just using the headlight switch to turn the relay on and off.

    Headlight Conversion

the relays are the way to go. i was driving around last night with nice bright headlights. no dimming at a stop light or anything. this was one of the best upgrades i did to the wagon.

    ignition switch question

should i run a ground wire from the relay mounting bolt back to the battery for a better ground. i thought i had this fixed, but it did it again to me today. turned the key and got nothing. maybe a bad ground on the starter relay.

    Painless mopar kit...

i havent used painless, but i did rewire my valiant with an ezwiring kit. same this as a painless but for 200 dollars instead of whatever painless wants. it wasnt too bad to wire the car and their tech line was very helpful.

had a bit of a scare today

could be. i have a ground wire coming off the regulator to a terminal strip and then directly to the battery from there. but maybe the paint on the regulator itself is the problem.

had a bit of a scare today

true. that sounds like a better idea. what a horrible feeling seeing smoke come out from under the hood of your finished project. my girl came out right after(not knowing what just happened) she told me dinner was ready. but i felt sick to my stomach and didnt want to do anything but figure out...

had a bit of a scare today

hmmm maybe. i could look at the fues panel and relays closer. i may have shorted it to the header or something. at least everything is working again. thanks for the reply.

had a bit of a scare today

well i have been trying to tune my car but the neutral safety switch isnt working so i was using a remote starter switch. because it kept dying. i hooked up the leads to each post on the starter. then i put my key in the on position. when i pushed the button to start the motor it cranked over...

    ignition switch question

well shoot. i dont have a ballast resistor anymore since im running the pertronix ignition and coil. i could still check to see if i get voltage on the start side when i turn the key though, i just need to pull the switch out so i can get my test meter on the connections. thanks for the idea!

    ignition switch question

is there a way to test the relay. mine is new, but it could still be bad, you never know. i will probably chenge out my switch for now. if it does it again i will know its not the switch. thanks.

    ignition switch question

    ignition switch question

hey guys. i have a quick question. my ignition switch sometimes stops working. i turn the key and get nothing. also when i turn the key my volt gauge drops to zero and back up to 12 when i let off. i can still start it with my remote switch if i hook it up under the hood. is this just an old...

    Pertronix---

pertronix told me that if i ran their internally resisted coil dor my application, i could get rid of the ballast resistor. so i pulled it off and spliced the wires together. works fine and i done need to worry about the resistor going out.

    ballast resistor

hmmm there has got to be a better way. guess i am going to have to make some calls tomorrow. there has to be someone who has wired a mopar ignition switch with this kit.
