SO--5 years ago I embarked on restoring my first car--70 Duster-- I struggled through it,with all the ups, downs,Wrong parts sent and returned, trials and errors(mostly mine) all the time my wife was with me and excited about the fun we would have in the car,This was our first full summer of "enjoying" the car and it was great,BUT the one thing that kept me going was the fact that someday I'd see my wife taking the car out and driving it with my daughter or friends.WELL she tells me that after witnessing all the work and hours that went into the car she will never get behind the wheel!!!!! and drive it--to me that sucks and I know to some of you that would be a blessing!!!! What about your wife's?????? Same story--Just want to know that I'm not alone---Steve

I consider my wife not driving my car a blessing! She loves the car, has been more than supportive but I think manual brakes, manual steering and her driving a bad mix.

You might be alone here.My wife,I teach how to drive the car on the street and the track, and how to properly beat the crap out of it!How to take it to the edge and bring it back, and still stay on it.Is it a niece car, yes, but its to have fun and enjoy, and part of your joy is having her drive it,correctly.Do you mates have the same talent or experience,NO,but you can teach them, and make them better. She could just be a litlle gun shy, being all done clean and sharp looking, and not want to dent or ding the car too,and may have to listen to some crazed husband wondering what the F$#* happen to the car, look at the other side of the coin too, mrmopartech

Lori cant wait to go for a drive, she has been so supportive of the car and the amt of time I have spent doing associated car stuff. She deserves to take the 1st drive, but she gets "shotgun" till the bugs are worked out!

When I brought the duster home, it was a mess.

My wife told me if it was a stick shift, she wanted it for a toy I said ok no problem.

Changed it over, from auto to 4-speed, in the mean time I bought her a new car, she said I like the new car keep it for an extra toy for yourself.

At the same time my 11yr old son said he wanted it for his first car, I said ok.
I know a when he turns 16 he will put some dents and bangs on it, probably wreck it hard, but guess that is when he gets to learn how to fix it.

My wife bought a 67 chevelle 6 yrs ago now drives it every chance she gets..too bad its a chevy...

My wife help me with my 71 Scamp with a 440, but she will never drive it. But she likes to drive my 65 Dart, my daught also drives the 65 Dart. I always try to get them to burn alittle tire like in the picture.

Eh, kind of. Mine takes the "For Sale" sign out of the window.

She also wants her own ride, er few rides.
68 mustang
A Grand national
68 Charger
yea,the list goes on into millionaire pockets......

My other half hates the car, she hopes on day that it will go away, so I dont have to worry about her taking it for a ride.

At least your wife is interested in your car. Mine doesn't like riding in mine. She doesn't say much about what I do to it but she's not a big fan. If it was quiet, smooth, and comfortable she might like it better. 66 Dart's aren't like that. LOL

Mine went out after the divorce and after a few years the youngest son convinced her to buy a 64 Dart.

Of course you know who gets called when something needs looking at on it...

my wife's afraid to drive my car. can't deal with what i might do if something happened to it. i think she exagerates.

Wow, I thought I was alone !

Mine has only been in it twice and that was because both times I picked her up from work and it's too far to walk.

She says it's embarrasing and complains that everyone stares. (thats why I painted it orange !!)
Her other issue is that she thinks it's way too loud !! Well, she may have a point there but thats what makes it even more fun I think.

Don't get me wrong, she's glad I'm happy with it. It's just not her thing.
:wack:

I am building mine a 65 Barracuda, so she will not want to drive the dart. She makes a great passenger. :burnout:

My wife was very supportive on this project, it was my moms first car and now it is ours. This is a 3 on the tree car. After a couple of rides my wife was ready to give it a try. She is ready to drive it now. Once I get all the bugs out of it she will probably drive it to work on the nice days.

Well, when we were first married, Wendy had to take my 64 Belvedere to work one day. When she got home she told me she was in the right lane at a stop light and could see it was going to end after the intersection so when the light turned green she stomped on the pedal!! Her comment..."Wow, is that car fast"!!! Ever since then she's been hooked on Mopars, so to keep her in the hobby and giver her a car of her own, I spent the next 10 years building the blue 66 in my avatar for her!! Now she wants a convertible, so I bought a 66 Valiant Signet vert that I am going to make a clone of the blue 66 for her, and I'm going to take over the reins of the Cuda. Do I have the same problem?? I think not!!! Geof

My wife not so secretly wishes mine was gone. I've had it on the road for three years and she's never been in it for a ride. Actually did get her to sit in it one day and run the throttle while I set the timing. To her it's obnoxious, noisey and stinks and she wants nothing to do with it.. which of course it is... :)

Swifter, I would say I have the EXACT same problem as you. Built a 1980 Trans Am way back when, painted black, gold stripes, just like she asked. She drove it once and that was it. Got rid of that and bought her an original paint 71 Roadrunner, never drove it. So, I scaled it down a bit and bought her a 69 Barracuda /6 with A/C, MINT California car...well, wasn't as fast, but was too nice and she was always worried that she would crack it up, so, never drove that either. Now, it's been in storage for the past 4 years. Haven't seen it in 3 years....:violent1:

My wife drives ours all the time... She sometimes has to travel from her work in the city out to her company's property about 80 miles each way - she always takes the Scamp.

She used to drive my 378ci, 400hp Fairlane all the time, including a cruise with a car club where I had a few too many beers at lunch and passengered with someone else - she spent the whole afternoon embarassing guys in faster cars through the twisty roads. Her driving that day is still a sore point with many guys in the club who think they're quick.

I usually drive when we go out together, only because with the bench seat her seating position results in me sitting with my knees on the dash.

Ya, my wife is like that... she is supportive of my car addiction but knowing the time and effort that goes into one she won't drive 'em. Too worried about scratches or if someone hits her.

Jamie has driven my dart to work, to different shows that I couldn't make, a long cruise in md when we were there, hell she even ran a high 12 second quarter mile in it. She isn't afraid to drive it at all.

Kind of a tough to tell for me right now. She constantly asks when I'm going to have to Dart roadworthy and when can we go for a drive? On the other hand, when I lit the engine off for the first time, she backed up about 15 feet with her eyes REAL BIG. To say she was intimidated by the sound a healthy big block is an understatement. That being said, I'm not sure if she'll want to drive it or not. My daughters , on the other hand, are a different story. They are in their twenties and fear nothing. They are the ones I gotta watch. 8)

i dont like to drive my dads chevelle.. not a wife obviously but i thinks its like a respect thing and dont want it to blow up when im at the wheel
