forgotton cars

-
I havent seen a Plymouth Horizon (my first car 83) in about 10 years nor a Dodge 600 (my second car 84) in even longer! There is a 83 Dodge 400 in the for sale adds here in Ottawa kijiji this morning... advertised as rust free too though that would surprise me greatly lol

IF YOU GO TO WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE IN AUGUST YOU WILL SEE ALL KINDS OF UNFORGOTTEN CARS CRUSING AROUND. IVE SEEN PINTOS,BOBCATS,PACERS, GREMLINS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN.:blob:

something REALLY forgotten, and for good reason, the AMC/Renault Encore. I think it was the car of the year in '80 or '81. And the LeCar Renault, thank god both of these are long gone.

I was thinking to myself on the way home last night about cars you never see on the road anymore. Not Cords or anything like that, but recent cars that seemed to be throw aways right off the lot. I saw a K-car...I dont see these but about once a month, it was still putting along, old lady driving it. Saw a Gremlin last week, first one in probably a year. Now: When was the last time you saw a running and driving Chevy Citation? How about a Ford Fairmont? Dodge Mirada? Yeah, sure they are 25 years old, but were these cars really so freaking cheap *** "Made in USA in the 80's" that they couldnt last 25 years? Not counting imports, I could care less about a CRX or a Maxima. I see old American beater trucks all day....
No, certainly not Cords. I still see those on the road.:glasses7:

74Dusted -- I'm way curious now... Think you could ask him if he bought it new, and if so, was it from a Dodge dealer? In 89 they all left Shelby as a white or a red truck with red Shelby monogrammed interior and as non-ragtops... Could the dealer have done the ragtop conversion? Neither my Shelby or Dodge Owners manuals that came with the truck mention anything about operating a convertible top, but does tell you not to sit on the light bar behind the cab.

The Dakota Sport Converts were red, white or black. Shelby didn't turn out a black Dakota. With the blacked out treatment, flares and similar wheels, they tend to look similar at a glance.

In 2010, this guy was selling what he thought was a rare Shelby Dakota Convertible... http://www.customdakotas.com/forums/sale/12323-selling-my-shelby-dakota-convertible.html ... but if you look at the pics, it does have a 318 and Shleby engine id plate on the radiator support, the wheels and front air dam... However, there is no numbered dash plaque, no shelby monogrammed seats/door panels/steering wheel and it has grey interior....

(my boss will be happy to know, instead of working I've been searching the subject for alomost 2 hours...lol)

Canada doesnt couit!! Just kidding...I remember the Fuego as the first mainstream turbo car, sortof...??OK, im on a mission now to take a pic of an old POS.

I have heard that most newer cars are only built to last 9-10 years. I guess they thought if they built them to last forever, who would ever buy a car? 16 yo getting their license for the first time.

I'll ask him the next time I see the truck out and about. It's a White truck with the Shelby graphics. I usually see it out in the summer, and of course the top is almost always down :D The first time I ever saw that truck, I said to my passenger "WTF, did you see that?! Someone cut the roof off a dakota" :D

Later I found out that it was a factory convertible.

im searching too as we speak. there is no mention, but that does not mean there wasnt a few that slipped out. im not the only one that has seen one. whether or not shelby actually used an 89 dakota vert platform for his 318 conversions .. i cannot verify thus far , but i do remember seeing some on the lot back in the day with shelby graphics. the search continues.... if im wrong, im wrong, but i will keep looking for info...

if you do get the chance, please snap a pic of it. i am now curious as well. and i am pretty darn sure i know what saw lol

Saw a Pinto II, I mean Mustang II just yesterday. K-cars? Hardly ever, same with Chrysler F,M, J-bodies (Dippies, Gran Furies, RWD 5Th Aves, Imps, Aspens, Volares. Miradas, et cetera). Early Hyundais, Daewoos, Kias? Hardly ever, don't care
Renault Fuegos? You know 'fuego' means fire? If God liked you he'd burn one to the ground for you as a favor, if you ever made the mistake of buying one. Same with the Premier/Monaco turds, Alliances...yuck!

I can think of a few newer vehicles that have an air filter that can't be replaced (sealed air cleaner/element assembly), and a few with non-serviceable/sealed transmissions too :wack:

Or the heater core on the Saab 900's, out of all the Saab 900's I've had come in for a leaking heater core, it wasn't the core leaking. It was the fittings that connect to the core (they're plastic and they break). Guess what though, the new/replacement cores don't come with those fittings, and they're not a part you can buy new either :wack: I had to fabricate new fittings from steel tubing for each job

How about the Aztek, was that ugly or what.
Believe it or not, the Aztek and AMC Pacer were both former pace cars at Daytona. I was at the 1980 Daytona 500, and they had 50 AMC pacer pace cars on the track.:D

i still drive my 88 Plymouth Reliant Wagon everyday, there is a 80's Plymouth Horizon in my gym parking lot, i saw a 89-90 Probe there today, a 94-95 Probe yesterday, and a Maverick at the Ace Hardware store, some people that work in one of the stores there, have a daily driver blue 69 Super Bee and another person has a 74 Dart Sport, i see them in the parking lot everyday.

Where did all the 90's Plymouth Lazers and Dodge Daytona Z's go, they were all over the place in the 90's

Plymouth TC3 and no one talks about he early Dodge Chargers, those were nice cars!

A local guy just posted a 10.28 quarter in his Charger this fall. Running factory 8v head and exhaust manifold, stock bottom end in his 2.2. Of course turbo/clutch/slicks and a few other things are done, but he drives it to and from the track, gets over 30mpg. :) Full interior to boot, and of course street legal.
