Remember the Plymouth acclaim, or the ford fiesta.
No, certainly not Cords. I still see those on the road.:glasses7:I was thinking to myself on the way home last night about cars you never see on the road anymore. Not Cords or anything like that, but recent cars that seemed to be throw aways right off the lot. I saw a K-car...I dont see these but about once a month, it was still putting along, old lady driving it. Saw a Gremlin last week, first one in probably a year. Now: When was the last time you saw a running and driving Chevy Citation? How about a Ford Fairmont? Dodge Mirada? Yeah, sure they are 25 years old, but were these cars really so freaking cheap *** "Made in USA in the 80's" that they couldnt last 25 years? Not counting imports, I could care less about a CRX or a Maxima. I see old American beater trucks all day....
we remember those, they are not forgottenno one talks about he early Dodge Chargers, those were nice cars!
and for the record, i saw a row of them at carlin dodge in colorado springs brand new on the lot in 89 or 90. shelby dakota ragtops.....they were there.looks like an 89 shelby dakota convertable from where im sitting....
74Dusted -- I'm way curious now... Think you could ask him if he bought it new, and if so, was it from a Dodge dealer? In 89 they all left Shelby as a white or a red truck with red Shelby monogrammed interior and as non-ragtops... Could the dealer have done the ragtop conversion? Neither my Shelby or Dodge Owners manuals that came with the truck mention anything about operating a convertible top, but does tell you not to sit on the light bar behind the cab.
The Dakota Sport Converts were red, white or black. Shelby didn't turn out a black Dakota. With the blacked out treatment, flares and similar wheels, they tend to look similar at a glance.
In 2010, this guy was selling what he thought was a rare Shelby Dakota Convertible... http://www.customdakotas.com/forums/sale/12323-selling-my-shelby-dakota-convertible.html ... but if you look at the pics, it does have a 318 and Shleby engine id plate on the radiator support, the wheels and front air dam... However, there is no numbered dash plaque, no shelby monogrammed seats/door panels/steering wheel and it has grey interior....
(my boss will be happy to know, instead of working I've been searching the subject for alomost 2 hours...lol)
if you do get the chance, please snap a pic of it. i am now curious as well. and i am pretty darn sure i know what saw lolI'll ask him the next time I see the truck out and about. It's a White truck with the Shelby graphics. I usually see it out in the summer, and of course the top is almost always down The first time I ever saw that truck, I said to my passenger "WTF, did you see that?! Someone cut the roof off a dakota"
Later I found out that it was a factory convertible.
I have heard that most newer cars are only built to last 9-10 years. I guess they thought if they built them to last forever, who would ever buy a car? 16 yo getting their license for the first time.
Believe it or not, the Aztek and AMC Pacer were both former pace cars at Daytona. I was at the 1980 Daytona 500, and they had 50 AMC pacer pace cars on the track. How about the Aztek, was that ugly or what.
Plymouth TC3 and no one talks about he early Dodge Chargers, those were nice cars!
