That hood looks vaguely familiar. Hmmmmm. It was a pleasure meeting you and your son this weekend. Keep up the great work and it will be ready for next year! :cheers:
 
It was cool meeting you as well, Roger! Was glad you were there. As I mentioned, seeing the hood morph you did posted in the forums, inspired Jake and I to do it to his car.

For the whole world - We got the front edge welded up last night, and half way down both sides...and inch or so at a time and alternating from side to side to keep warping to a minimum.......then ran out of wire. Some of my welds are ugly, but we have an angle grinder and filler...lol Jake's going to pick up another spool on his way home from work today, but it will be Friday evening before we have a chance to get back to it.

I'm really hoping to be ready for paint no later than October - Jake's hoping for early September.
 
A little progress the last couple of days an hour at a time.... Got it all welded and welds ground down. Actually pread a thin layer of filler on the seams tonight.....

2 years ago this weekend we drug her home -- in 2 months we HOPE to be going to paint.

almost ready for primer.... A couple of hours between the last 2 evenings and we are thiiiiiiiiiiisssssss close to primer on the hood....just gotta skin a few low spots......

So we did Hershey Park for the weekend - had a great time, weather was perfect for the park and was not overly crowded. Got home this afternoon, unpacked and got the underside of the hood finished. Top side is in primer but that pic will have to wait until tomorrow when we can turn it back around. We are also tracking down a minor electrical issue - none of the dash lights work - no oil light, high beam light, cluster lights or turn sig indicator light. The look on Jake's face says it all.

So I got the dash light issue figured out today - good there.

Got the hood finished last night (for the most part). Still has a low spot here and there. Bolted it on this evening. I'm diggin it.

Thank you gentlemen, and others...lol It turned out pretty good. We are pleased with it.

We fired the engine up for the 1st time this evening!!!! It moves under its own power!!! Feels pretty dang good and strong. Got some fine tuning to do, but overall felt real good. Wanted to run a little on the hot side, but not way hot.

Getting closer to the paint shop! Looking like September - we hope!
 
So we have the body where we want it ready for my paint man. Decided to swap the manifolds out for the 5.2/5.9 Dakota/Dango logs. Minor issue. I knew the collar at the steering shaft needed to be trimmed a bit, and knew there might be a little grinding to do on the edge of the manifold to clear the shaft..... But The right side is dead against the inner fender - need to grind the pentastar and casting numbers off the manifold to clear it, but the left side is worse - it is dead against the steering colum shaft. So much so that the front of the manifold is pulled away from the head because the rear of it is pushed in from hitting the shaft. I think I will take them to a machine shop and have 1/16th of an inch milled off the mounting surface of both manifolds. I know it will give me what I need on the right side, and am hoping between the 1/16th and grinding the casting numbers off,along with an 1/8th inch shim under the motor mount, I'll get just enough to let the left side clear the steering shaft. And yes that is one orange plug boot on #7 - melted the black one off with the old manifold...lol

Ah hell. A good BFH will take care of the passenger side clearance issue! Lol nah, it sounds like you've got it pretty well figured out
 
Sanderson is making a real nice shorty header now that's reasonably priced and clears everything. They just came out and are not listed in their book. I have the D450's which I don't like because they are in the way of everything. Figured I'd give you a heads up before you spend money modifying those. Just FYI
