so i've been working on the motor mounts. this is the drivers side. i designed this to mirror what dodge might have come up with, if this engine was used in 1962. all the way down to using the rubber isolator. here it is. i'll finish welding it solid, once i have the passenger side made up. oh, and where i have the engine positioned. the mounts will drop right into the factory mounting holes on the K-frame.

I've been interested in this build since I came across the thread. Now I'm really excited. Only problem though is that I hate having to follow builds in progress. So much easier and gratifying to read the whole build after its done... SO, can we fast forward yet? LOL

Rick, I did a search on the MA5 after you posted the pics. Sounds like it is better (except in gear ratios) than the Supra R154 trans. I've been looking for one of them for years to use with the Dakota bellhousing without finding a good affordable unit. Now I'd say my problem is solved.

The first question that comes to mind with the engine mounts you're making is where will the shifter be located? Too far forward, too far back, or JUST right! Is the engine in the same place as the pics of it in the car, or is that being adjusted.

What are your plans for running the 2.4? MegaSquirt / MSD, or what...

I've been collecting parts to begin mocking up a 3.9l / A500 combo for my daughter's '62, but this is very enticing. Certainly easier to package than the 3.9. I'd prefer a clutck myself, but it is her car.

Mike, the engine will drop down into the original mounting holes on the K-frame. this had to be trimmed a little for oil pan clearance. the shifter ends up right under the tunnel brace. i will run a hole saw through the center of this for access. the picture below is an example of how i can rectify this. if you get the MA5 from a solstice the shifter will end up just behind the cross member. there is one for sale here locally for $350.00 if your interested. if you opt to use the 904 there is an adapter out there that can used. and of course there are also adapters available for use of the GM automatic. i may end up with megasquirt. right now i have the engines original computer and complete harness.

I love the outside the box thinking on this build......That comment is tough for me to make, mostly because, like many, I'm such a purist!
 
Keep in mind I am building a dodge car with a dodge motor. Not a dsm or japanese motor

Yea, that's what makes it so cool. Not going with a new Gen Hemi but a
SRT-4(ish) engine is very custom and brilliant. If done right (and I'm sure it will be) will look right at home ....even look "stock".
 
today i was able to make the passenger motor mount. pretty cool the way the mounts drop right into the original mounting holes on the K-frame. the steel oil pan i chose didn't need any modifications. the steering linkage clears nicely. just a little trimming was needed on the rear portion of the k-member.

Very cool build. I like the neon motor swap. What do the transmissions come in? Thinking of stuffing one in an MG Midget.

The trans came out of a chevy colrado. The silstice skye h3 and canyon also use it. The r154 from a supra can also be used.not to mention the ax15 jeep. There is a neon powerd midget out there. You can find it on the internet
 
Does the Colorado trans bolt directly to the neon motor? How about the sky/solstice trans? Does the colorado trans have truck ratio first gear or is it a close ratio trans?

the ratios are good.1 2 3 4 5
3.75 2.26 1.51 1.00 0.73 same ratios across the board as pontiac solstice, and saturn skye. and of course you can fine tune those to your application by different axle ratios. and a smooth shift, unlike the supra trans that is choppy 03-05 jeep liberty and wrangler came with a 2.4. that is the bell housing needed. or the 2.5 bell housing from the dodge dakota. as stated in earlier posts. there is also a NSG370 6-Speed Manual transmission that was available for the jeep four cylinder. that may work in a swap such as this if the ratios are desirable.
 
Is the Dakota trans same as Colorado? What years did the Dakota come with the 2.5 and that five speed. Thanks for the info. Really considering doing the swap on my midget.

First It looks like you were able to keep the K frame. How about front suspension? Second it looks like you have done plenty of research for this build, So was wondering the cost of having the 2.4 built to make around 375/400HP. We research shows the 2.4 to weigh 339lb a 360 magnum weighs 540lbs So to gain any advantage of the weight lost by using the 2.4 the power would have to be in the range I stated above. Thanks Tim

I chose a steel oil pan thinking it might have to be modified. Not the case at all. The factory steering linkage has clearance. I trimmed away a minimal amount of the Kframe back edge for front pan clearance.. Where the positioning of the engine sits, is where the factory intended the slant six or v8 to sit on the cradle. I am in no way one who mutilates the car to get the engine to fit. I am new to these engines. But through readings of my own I have read that 350-400 horse power is very achievable with factory parts and applications through good tuning
