Anybody remember that old '11 thread i started? (And gave up on!)

I was reminded of this old thread when I was reading the latest Cart Craft that came in. On the cover it reads "Low-Buck Build!" without a build or low buck story. Nothing new with the rags? I guess. That is also what started me putting up stickies when I was a MOD here in the racers section for the time zones for you to post in when you got your car to run in that time zone for others to get an idea on what it takes to run that time zone.
Basically, MoPar guys helping MoPar guys out.

Also inside the rag, they show a small gaggle of racers in the NNMCA 275 radial, running a slow 8.67 @ 161. A 2008 Challenger took top honors at 7.08 @ 207. BUGET MY ARSE!
Then there is the Car Craft Demon they chopped up and installed a modern twin turbo HEMI that runs 6.39 @ 110 in the 1/8th. BUGET MY ARSE!
The biggest "BUDGET" car in there was a clone '69 GOT with a LS3turbo running 10's. BUDGET?!?!

ANYWAYS, back to my old idea. Which was to start a thread showing our members how they can possible run there car quickly and maybe even fast without spending a bunch of money and at the same time, have a friendly competition while we are at it. But that's where the problem started. Not to mention people didn't actually read the threads beginnings and started to ask questions that were spelled out to start with.

Let me give you the basic idea.

This would be a Competition for fun with no prize money, just bragging rights. This is your chance to be a show off and say I told ya so!

It would be done on the "Honor system." And that should be easy, right? Just remember your actually helping your MoPar family out when you DON'T LIE!

It should be done as "CHEAPLY AS POSSIBLE!" THE CHEAPER THE BETTER. SHOW OFF YOUR SCROOGE!!!!! Show the world what a cheap S.O.B. you are! Though I do understand the new for new parts. Sometimes, they carry the price. BUT, if you can get used headers, great. If not, new ones are not a shame item or expenditure. Building your own exhaust is "Awesome hero work" while dropping $700 on a tti exhaust is "Hall of Shame" in this fun.

Race your local track and report back!

IF you are interested in throwing your hat in the ring, enter a reply in a post.

Would We be doing a Budget build car correct? I just Might be in... I have a 1964 valiant ... Can we use already owned parts?

NO, your should start with an Audi or BMW to put a slant 6 in.

LMAO!

OK seriously, YES!

Yes, all ready owned parts, that would be cheap parts right? BUT, you could put in the price you paid, like "I paid *** for this part"

I all ready have a 400 B from another car and a Duster. The Cordoba had a 400/727 in it. So for the $800 I paid, this is the price for that so far. The Duster I paid $700. I'm in for $1500. Which isn't cheap really. But what ever platform you can start off with, we'll call it a uneven starting point. Since in this case, big block Dusters are not factory issued. But big block Darts are!

Motor swaps are fun, but they do add to the cost. Getting them free isn't everyday thing ether. But stranger things have happened to me. We all know engine swapping is pricey. It will be part of the total cost. But once your done, then the real challenge starts. Making what you have go fast for as close to nothing as possible. Also, rebuilding of the engine should not be done. IF it is unavoidable, it gets added to the cost. Now things are getting expensive. Id rather a good engine to start with and save, oh I don't know, how much is a basic rebuild? $900, $1500? I'd rather 900-1500 in go fast parts myself rather start a whole entire new fresh build and try to pass it off as cheap, which it is not!

Lets just start with the car we have. And then build from there.

I'll be right back, I have an issue called "Starting dinner" to contend with.

But before I go, I have a general idea of for the rules list or guide line list?

Right now, I just wanna know who wants to have fun and show off there "I'm a cheap SOB and I can go faster than you, cheaper than you."

I have a running list of guide lines and rules. I'll post it if this takeoff. Until then, don't worry about it, just think, ponder and imagine the word "CHEAP"

Wow-you should have no problems finding cheap bastards here, but the going fast????

Theres our first complainer.

NEXT!

Rob, I thought your previous attempt was a good idea. Unfortunately the participants lost focus. I would be interested in a retry even though I couldn't participate at this time.

Are you Planning on getting the track time test idea together if this goes through Rob?

i don't understand what you mean.

Everybody reports there times and speed, hopefully documenting there improvements as the year goes on.

Cool. I thought I saw on your old thread you were trying to get some people together at the track.. Ill be looking forward to the guidelines and rules

Hell! If we can meet, GREAT!
But it is a bit impossible to get everybody involved to meet at any one place.

Check out my build thread.
Would my car qualify to be a good candidate for this?
I built it with mostly used parts minus some safety items like brakes.......
I have yet to baseline the car, and the nearest track is about 100 miles from me.
The clutch is weak, but i got a new centerforce clutch for it for Christmas, does ''gifted'' parts count?
Do parts you acquire through trading count?
I would like the rules to not include nitrous, but cheap tubos and blowers allowed.
Bolt on and modified parts from what you have already if i understand correctly.
I do have LOTS of used parts like headers etc. if i choose to use them. Maybe enough to go big block if i want.
I have about 5 grand into the car as it sits.
Let the games begin?
Tom.

I think There HAS to be a set price that the car needs to fit under like a set price you cant go over building it or if you already built it

JMO but I like having this concept of rules (maybe different rules but same layout) to go buy and a set price ... maybe? I saw some people talking about aluminum heads and stuff in the past thread and I think it should just stay simple

The safety side of this should not be compromised in anyway shape or form. Brakes are not part of the "GO fast" side of this idea. But it should be addressed and upgraded if you think it a good idea. That cost is not a factor in the "Go fast for cheap"idea.

Gifted parts from Christmas, birthday or won in a card game or a game of chicken or dare are not a problem.

Trade parts? why not.

Interesting though. I kind of agree. Though, if you do have it already, do us all a favor and give us a before and after run on and off the juice.
Turbo's and Blowers are cheap? Good, get me one if you use one or don't bother posting in the go fast cheap thread. Theres no such thing as a cheap turbo or blower. If you point to e-gag for the cheap turbos there, I disagree on them actually being a real turbo.

Blowers and turbo's are out.

Yep, the idea is bolt on parts. Used, gifted, traded, given, dirt cheap swap meet parts. GREAT!
If you need a new part, then you need a new part.

No set price, but the idea is cheap. As close to no buck as you can get. Show us what you can do with as little cash as possible.

I'll post the list/rules later.
I myself do not consider aluminum heads cheap. Perhaps bang for the buck they pay off, but the cash outlay of Edelbrocks is up to what? Approx. $800 each from Summit. $1600 for the set. Then off to a shop for a check out. This is not cheap.

Hmmm... My kind of gig, Rumble. 72 Valiant. : Swapped dying El Camino , for a set up car trans back. Came with 002-003 S.S springs/ 355 Trac Lok/ Hemi spec SBM 727. There you go !

I got budget builds up the ying yang, but no time slips. Ill have to sit back and watch. Im on a fixed car income.....I have done it on $25 every 2 weeks for 8 years now, and buying and selling. Wife cant complain...I spend more on lunch.

I would like to do this but I have no extra cash none. But I know where I can get a decent 66 Barracuda for $500.00 or less and a running 360 cheap.I thought maybe later on I could buy it and just build the car out of Swap meet,FABO, and Craigslist parts.Just a car to get running and spend as little as possible on it.But I am so broke I can't even do that right now....LOL
