Over $6000 to install TTI headers on 66 Barracuda

-
James: You wrote in a previous thread that this car has a column shift automatic. I didn't think the TTI's were meant to fit this application. Is it the linkage that's causing the problem?

The plot thickens...

Possibly brings parts to a guy that are stated as not fitting on manufacturers website and wonder why the mechanic has a hard time installing them. hmmm

The destruction don't mention that tidbit about the shift mechanism. It is on the website. Something that important should always be front and center on the destructions.

I'd love to hear an answer to that question regarding column shift auto.

I guess the answer is here.

Interesting. I had forgotten about that. It's been a while since I've seen this car. The best option at this point might be one of the new Borgeson power steering boxes coupled with a pair of Spitfires/Layson's headers.

No it's not. There's no law against "display". Brandishing is using it in a threatening manner. Holding it pointed in a safe direction is neither. Let's keep this on track. If you want to argue, start another thread and I'll be glad to rack up 20 pages with you.

So driving to a guy's shop and getting out with a shotgun demanding the guy release your car is not threatening?

Good luck with that.

And now for the rest of the story.....................

Sometimes I wonder if some of these threads are real! Maybe they are just meant to stir up the forum! And it works!
As for the actual post, there is so much more information needed before we truely know the story. My hats off to clifftt for doing some additional homework before commenting. I agree $6k is way to much to install headers, but what if anything else was originally discussed as work that was to be done. And I wonder if anything else is included in that $6k charge.
Its been almost 24 hrs since this was posted and the OP hasnt replied back yet. I cant wait to hear more of this story. It may be true or we may be missing some very important facts such as after the first 2 or 3 days of the car not being done was there communication between them to say addition charge would be added? But until I find out more I cant make judgement.
Looking forward to hearing more,
Rod

yep i wonder also

6K is a hosing any way you slice it if true. Sometimes, you have to fish or cut bait.

Hmmm,

As cudajames is a FABO member the topic piqued My curiosity,

4 pages and no feedback from You cudajames??

I would contract with a towing company. Ride up there in the rollback with my JC Higgins double barrel and get my car and headers. Period.

Have done something similar before that was not car related. I stood in the middle of a computer showroom with that very shotgun. I got my stuff back with no charge.

LOL you are so full of ****

The mechanic and I both missed the column shifter part. That was not noticed until the headers were in place. (Yes, I know I should have noticed that and the entire install was really an exercise in futility). I am not attempting to get out of paying him for his work; my problem is with the amount he is attempting to charge me
Sadly, I am not trolling.

Let the dumb comments begin

Is he frustrated or seems fed up with this project?

I wonder if the mechanic is pissed and just trying to get you to go away with that number or angry at the whole situation.

Tell the mechanic you want an itemized list of parts and labor, and his hourly rate. I can't see any way it's going to add up to $6000.

Do you have his estimate in writing?

im not trying to be an *** , but you are the only one that can anything about it. nobody here can do it for you. you can either go get your stuff with what ever means are necessary , or you can just let the BS continue. I know for a fact I would never put myself in that situation , nobody should, but it happens. the question is, what are you going to about it.

Bring him a gold spray painted turd and ask him if he will take that as payment. I really hope you get your car back for less than 1000. He should ld have called you as soon as he hit that number to let you know it was going to spiral out of control.

At this stage, I wrote out a timeline with detail, the garage is on my way to work, so I was able to stop in and check progress during the process. Now I have matched dates with progress.
I plan to talk with him on Monday about how he arrived at the total. And more than likely have the car towed from the shop.

If it goes bad, I will still have the car removed an open a case with BAR

I put a set of those in a 66 Barracuda for a customer and wow, what a PITA. Think I had a week and a half labor into it to get everything to work and clear. Will never do it again.

And it's not your first rodeo with headers and Mopars!!

Have your car taken to a reputable shop, send the tow bill to the first mechanic along with the bill from the second shop to complete his work.

Oh, and get his email address for any future communication, so you have a record of who said what. Then send him a link to this thread.

I got a blower from a BB chevy..how much would he charge to install it on my slant?

All that and he didn't use one of these!!!!????......
