knock in engine

Awful sorry man. I know that's a heartbreaker. Just another case of how bad I wish I was closer to a friend to help them out.

thanks man, I appreciate the thought

I guess its a small victory that I was right in my assumption I heard a rod slap around in there (though I guessed wrong on the cause...if anyone has any idea what caused this id be interested to know)

the part I was must drudging was pulling the engine out and we're passed that stage
things should be getting easier from here

(and now I can give MRL a call and see how they compare to the local machine shop)

live and learn I guess

Just remember, when Mike scares you with his price.....and he will.........in HIS case, you GET what you pay for.

talked to Mike today
I think I heard most of what he said over my kids screaming

he seemed allright with keeping the cam I have in it but did suggest moving up to a 750 carb
(funny, the shop local to me suggested a bigger cam but keeping the 600 until the money as there to go larger)

he should have a number for me this weekend

Exactly. Mike can work with a budget in mind as long as the recipient doesn't expect a 10K dollar engine for 5K.

we haven't talked money yet (short of the cost of a dyno session) but he did mention there is a considerable amount that can be saved by me ensuring he has got clean parts to work with and doesn't have to rack up a huge bill cleaning stuff I could have cleaned

Mate that sucks, it looks almost exactly like what I found when I took my biotin end apart.

Still remember that feeling.

Anthony

dropped it all of at MRL today

I had the dubious honor of being his first customer who delivered and entire small block stuffed in the trunk of a charger :)

I know right

he's taking the block down to the machine shop tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get the OK to build it and have it back in the car within a month
(might be a bit longer though, who knows)

Well, I guess in the mean time you can do any cleaning you've been thinking about.

if I wanted to clean I wouldn't have gotten married :wack:

though I for sure will need to clean those fresh air vents now, because I got a feeling that 408 will be blowing through there hard

I'm toying with the idea of hurrying up and getting my 8 3/4 rear end done (I ended up finding one local, drum to drum, 489 case with open 3.23 gears, for $300) but I don't want to rush it

Ha ha! Nice

Yeah, if you have never gone through your vents, now would be a good time. What all does the rear end need? I wouldn't want to rush anything either, but that 7 1/4 probably won't take kindly to much abuse from that 408...

not sure what it needs, if I can ever get the drums off I can slap on all new brake hardware
put some fresh lube in the center chunk and I'm playing with the idea of giving the axle bearings a good once over and a new set of seals

the "good" thing about the 7 1/4 is that its an open 2.74 gear set so even with the 408 it shouldn't hook very hard
