I have a 360 in the dart. The girlfriend is constantly asking why everyone wants to know if its a 340. "360 is bigger than a 340 right?" sais the girlfriend.

Lets hear some good comebacks. or am I the only one that hears it?
 
Well I guess since you have a 69 "it figures", but mine is a 67!!! And, I get the same THING. You do know, "eh" that 340's didn't come in 67s

True funny story

In a previous life, I sold auto / truck parts and heavy hardware. Guy comes in with an old 'Vette. MIGHT have been built before 327s came out!!! Wanted some of the underhood heater duct. I went out with him to measure, and of course "a crowd" gathered.

"Some guy" says "that a 327?" "Yes."

"Some guy" continues, "ya, yu cin alwayzzzzz tell a Vette 327!!! IT'S JUST A BIT SHORTER THAN REGULAR ONES
 
Tell them it's a stroked 360, then watch the puzzlement you get.
From now on I'm just gonna say, "Yeah, it's right there on the quarter panel!"
 
Mopar people, in general, eat our own. Chevy people are like yeah thats a small block awesome! Mopar guys tend to see a small block and walk away, but if the car has a big block they stay and look at it. Had it happen with the 69 Charger. Car was a 318 car and without fail every time we would go out people would walk up say "hmm small block" and walk away. As soon as the 440 went in it change to "damn thats a big block, awesome".
 
i got a 340 nananananana. i think its cause 340s came hot from the factory. 360s came mild and you have to tweak them.
 
I say it all the time...
Them: "Does that have a 340 in it?"
Me: "No, just a 360..."


that's the result of going from a 400+ hp 340 to a stock 1979 360 from a truck lol.



edit-of course, I can do the opposite with my Stealth. If someone with a v-6 pulls up beside me I just laugh at the fact that they tried to challenge my v-6 with that puny motor.

..don't be too hard on some of these guys...i had quite a time convincing a Lady last night at our local cruise that my car ('70 ev2 Duster) was not a GTO Judge.It got so bad there for a*while that i just started telling every body it was a Nova.
...now your issue may be because a 360 never came in a Dart....so the uniformed would never expect it.
 
im running a 360 and I get that from time to time
my response usually is "sure beats the 225 that ma mopar put in there"
 
I get people that turn their nose up at the smallblock, and I just tell them that I'll put whatever they think should be in it if they want to buy it.
 
Old school people know that 340's are hot engines stock, most remember their first ride in a 340 too and how they were known to rev high.....I love having a 340, but want to build a 360 someday, I have a early 360 engine, block dated 1970 :glasses7:
 
I don't understand the obsession with the 340. I have both and I am convinced a 360 will out torque and out run the 340 any day. It has more stroke and more torque.

A 340 is a bored out 318 with good heads. Whoopy doo let me go broke buying another one, when I can get a 360 out of the yard and do some work to it and out torque and out run the 340 car.

I had a 74 duster with a 360 and I compared it very closely to my dad's 69 340 cuda. and that's why I believe this.

People are sheep ....if you tell them a 360 is worth serious money then everyone would want one
 
Its like my 460 ford, everyone thinks they need a 429 since they came in CJ and SCJ.

A 360 is a small-er bore, stroked 340.....unless your 360 is .040 over.

Look at how man 350 shittys end up in everything. Everyone thinks its the gospel.
 
I've got 340 emblems on the scoops of my 318 Swinger. I need a couple 318 emblems.
 
Not just peak power that matters, but delivery. A 340 delivered where it counts. Hard to beat a good one. They use to run down Hemi's at the track.

Simple ... The 340 sat between the fenders of some of the most iconic muscle cars, 68 to 71 barracudas, dart demon and dusters. Factory 6pack AAR cudas, T/A challengers, etc... The 360 didn't !

I've got a different twist on the tail. I have a friend with a very nice 72 Demon that has a 360 crate motor in it. He got so tired of people turning up their noses when he tells them it's not a 340,he put a 340 pie plate on the air cleaner. Stopped all of the questions, and everyone thinks his car is "cool". I told him as long as he doesn't try to sell it as a 340 car he can do whatever he wants to his car. I can't wait to see the puzzled looks on people's faces when I tell them that I sold my old junk 340 to build a 408!
 
When I had my 440 6pk Cuda I had a father son come up to the car. The dad says to the son." See son, this car isn't original cuz Hemis didn't come with 6 packs." I didn't embarrass the moron in front of his kid. I was tempted to but, I let it go.

Depends on who builds it. The old man wanted to build a 340 for his Duster ages ago. Couldn't find one and couldn't afford the ones he did find.

In comes the 360. Cheap, easy to find. That car became a legend in the area. Once word got around it had a 360 in it, all of sudden, those same folks who were saying the 340 was all the rage were coming to Pop for advice on how to build a 360.

When you get right down to it, though, it's like a buddy of mine, seriously into Mopars, who claims the 360 is "junk." It's not junk, it just came out in the "junk" era of smogged cars.

Funny how everyone rags on the 360 for not being the 340 then thinks the Lil Red is one of the most awesome vehicles ever built and then goes on to make the claim of how fast it was compared to the competition. Kind of contradictory, don't ya think?

Apples vs oranges, sort of..... I get the opposite with the land yacht. When I have the Fury out, at least 1 person will comment on how nice of a 383 car it is just because its a big car. When I tell them its just the original 318, they look amazed. I guess the purple shaft cam and flowmasters make it sound bigger. LoL
