I have a dual point i am rebuilding for my 273, my understanding is that the commando valve covers that i am going to re-wrinkle paint wer basically supposed to match the cast iron dizzy. Should i just paint the dizzy black or wrinkle pant it the same as the valve covers?

Yeah. Left to rust. That's how they came.

Or do like the factory did. Looks like they tossed a Dixie cup on it and painted it with the rest of the engine.

It looked black under the vac advance is why I thought it would paint

67 covers you have there. The distributors were black but not wrinkled. They were painted at Prestolite where they were made. They were installed in the block and painted red with the rest of the engine.

Ya I know he 67s I will use until I can find the pass side or a different 66 set m will still look good I may hit the dist with light cost of black or poss rust converter spray and leave alone

That would be good!

That is correct. They were not bare unpainted iron left to rust, though many of them did eventually rust despite the paint.

Krylon satin black is a very close match to the stuff Prestolite originally used, only with better durability.

Dan, if you have a need, try John Deere satin black. It is superior in my book. I believe it is made by Martin Senour. Tmm

I never saw a unpainted one before I looked here this morning. Thought I was still dreaming for a minute. Is it possible that some don't know the difference between cast iron and cast alloy ?
Good luck with the wrinkle paint. I think every can has one or more "do overs" inside.

I usually strip them in a blast cabinet, and use clear acrylic spray on them to keep em lookin fresh.

Avoid paint on the base where the clamp holds. That is where ground happens, unless a ground wire is added
