Wasn't sure where to put this, so I figured here. If any one actually bothers to read through this, thank you for your time. For the weekend I figured I'd drive the Plymouth from Bradenton to Ocala to hang out with family. On the way up, it started surging from fuel starvation. I found this a bit strange having a clean tank, new sending unit, new lines, new pump, and new filter. Was also strange that I had been doing 70mph for nearly 100 miles; backed off to 60 and it was fine. I get up here and figure it's Saturday, let's go to OldTown in Kissimee for their car cruise. Does the same surging trying to do 70, so I just run in the slow lane at 60. About 1/3 into the trip, right rear tire blows. A little odd because the tires are daily new and I've never run over anything. Spare gets put on and away we go. Getting onto I4 from the turnpike, I hear a bang with a metallic ping going down the ramp. I didn't see anything in on the road in the mirror, so I pull over. Driver torsion broke in half about seven inches back from the control arm. So, I limp it the last 25 miles and get in the show, park the car and wander off. I come back to it an hour later to put something I bought in it and the guy with the car next to me comes over saying I had to leave because security was looking to kick me out. This made no sense being I haven't done anything to be thrown out. As I'm trying to figure out what this guy is trying to tell me, security shows up telling I can't have my car there, I have to get it out, and don't bring it back until I'm done with my project. My car may not be in the best condition, but she's a reliable daily driver that still looks pretty good and I don't plan on restoring it. Apparently people can't appreciate a classic in unrestored condition. I drove the 80 miles back with no real problem and I don't have much choice but to drive it back to Bradenton with a now removed torsion bar, but I've never been kicked out of a car show for having a car that isn't restored and the Plymouth is the nicest looking car I have; not the best running due to a weak cylinder, but it looks nice from a distance. I even had a trophy sitting in the front seat that it won at a local car show. Oh well, **** happens, I'll get over it. Just needed somewhere to let it out since I don't really have any people I talk to, and the family I came up to see were with me. I'm going to NPD tomorrow to see if they might have a torsion bar, but I may end up just driving it as-is home and go see a friend that I know will have one. So, if you made it to the end, thanks for putting up with me and my old piece of junk.

Damn, shitty day. Hope you can get a bar. As for the show.......doesn't sound like one I would attend. I guess they all only see how much money was spent on a car as to whether it is show worthy. Their loss, to heck with 'em.

Maybe it kept doing stuff after you walked away.
Hey, maybe it farted. :D

Could only hope, right? LOL

so let me get this straight
you got to drive your old mopar 80 miles to piss of some chebby guys who were clearly jealous
then you turned around and drove her 80 miles back, with half the front suspension gone, and a flat tire...and she limped on home into the stable under her own power?

doesn't sound too bad to me ;)

I don't intend on going back. If I do, it'll be with my 78 F250. Rustiest, worst condition pile of junk I have but it runs fantastic and is not only road worthy, it's proven reliable which is what I care about. Security even told me that these guys that spend money on the million dollar cars don't want to see stuff like mine; I didn't see anything worth more than 50k at best. I go to shows to hang out, meet new people and have a good time. To me, it's just a car. I felt the same way about a 62 Studebaker I just got rid of. Yeah, it was a cool old car, but it was just a car. My S10 ran out of gas and I used the Studebaker to tow it home because it was the only other thing I had running at the time. Whenever I buy an old car, I look at how it runs or how difficult it is to make it run. Paint body and interior would be nice, but not necessary for a nice car.

Pretty much, except I had put the spare on, so I did have four decent tires. The thing is though, I'm currently in Ocala and I live in Bradenton. If NPD doesn't have a torsion bar, she's gonna go another 130 miles before I can get one. I can't afford a tow that far and I need to be back in town by Tuesday. The strange thing is that it drives a ton better now that it broke.

There's always a silver lining. You didn't get hurt with the blowout. That could have been bad. You didn't get hurt with the torsion bar. That could have been bad.

You found out who NOT to associate with. They suck. You don't.

I was gonna say, if you had to pay I woulda told em to piss off. Might've anyway seeing how it's open to the public!

If you don't find one, I have several torsion bars. I live in Plant City Fl.
Plant city is not too far out of the way on my drive home. Since I don't know for sure that my buddy has any and him not having a phone, I may swing by your place then. I'll pm you tomorrow afternoon if I need one. I was planning on leaving where I'm at Monday morning, but I could head out of here Sunday if it means getting car fixed.

The guy told me it says on their website show cars only. I looked it up and no it doesn't. To me, a show car depends on your definition of the term. I've taken my beat up 1990 S10 to shows and people like it for some reason. I go to have a good time, that's what it should be about. I showed up to one show in a 73 Mustang that had almost no floor and had no exhaust on a 351 Cleveland. Not sure why, but I never left the car because people wouldn't stop talking to me about.

Personally, I'm more attracted to daily drivers, work in progression "so to speak" when I go to a car show. Not the high end stuff.
Same way at the dragway. you'll find me talking to the guy with a '77 Dodge 318 2bbl before the typical 11 second bracket car.
But, that's just me.....

Trailer queens are just that. Queens.

I'd rather have a rusty but well running and strong motor. Than some overpriced metal flake paint job. Rusty and daily drivers are cooler.

sorry to hear this and I think your Plymouth is a sweetie of a car. Apparently some people need to watch CARS 2 when Mater wanted to keep his dents and rust because that is what him...Mater.

Yours is not as bad as Mater, I am not trying to say you have a Mater but I don't see anything wrong with a few dents and a rust spot here and there on a dependable car.

You are reminding me why I don't participate in car shows and hardly even go to them anymore. They are Gangs and the same people win every time and the same people run the whole things. I have a local car "gang" here and then they wonder why mopars in particular are few at most shows. Over here each show is dominated by a blue AAR cuda and the owner is about the largest azzhole you can find.

Rusty, but good for daily driving is what I go to. Other than the Plymouth, I have a 350 powered 1990 S10 beat up but a good truck. 1978 F250, beyond rotted, but runs like a top, can't be stopped and still gets put to work. I traded a $100 75 Nova part car for the F250. Rusty yet primerd 1976 Nova completely original with 250 I6 and everything but a/c works that I did delivery in from October to February and put 13,000 miles on in those few months; it did have 64,300 miles when purchased, now somewhere around 80,000 miles. $400 73 Mustang that is in bad shape but will go anywhere. 1962 Studebaker Lark that looks terrible but once it has a new radiator will be good to hit the road. I don't have a single car that would go for more than 2k or so, maybe 3 or 4, but if I find something that can be a super reliable car for cheap that was made before computers and EFI, I'm interested. Still wondering how I ended up with some of what I have, but don't really care, I'll thin back down to two or three eventually.

The shows I normally go to are put on by one guy, Lance, and everyone and everything is welcomed. The same cars could show up every time and different people would always win something. Recently there's been someone else that's started doing shows in between Lance's and it's the same way, come out and have a good time and talk about what's doing with the never ending project and what ache or pain you have this week.

personally I don`t care for car shows. they are usually a bunch of people telling lies about how bad their car is. they sound completely stupid most of the time .

Good cars, Mopars are, they'll get home under their own power.
Twice I've had the horribke drop of broken torsion bars or mounts.
If you jack it up, you can slide a short chunk of 2x4 into the gap betwen the lower control arm and the frame.
She'll ride hard, but sit level.
You're my kinda guy, who needs to satisfy a bunch of wealthy snobs?
That was a sucky day, but you actually drove yours home, and the snobbiest snobs rode in a tow vehicle.
