Went to an open car show. Ran into a guy had a 70 challenger with with Hemi Swap (GenIII). Which I have done myself in my 67 barracuda So I comment on his restoration and ask some questions about the swap I noticed some stuff I liked and asked him. He told me "I don't know anything about it you have to ask the guy that restored the car." and proceeded to turn away from me. What a Dick. Later he came by my car and was ripping on all the scratches and chipped paint and old bumpers. So I told him aperantly you can not appreciate a car that the owner built and drives all over the country. And not towed in a trailer.

I ran into a similar owner at a recent show. Beautiful car, zero knowledge. I think they get embarrassed since they don't have the answers. It's what separates the men from the boys.

Ain't nothing wrong with a 4 door sedan OR a daily driver....yeah, Fug em. What a tool.

I go to several shows a year. It doesn't matter what brand the car is and I've heard the same story. I don't know or I didn't restore or I bought it this way. And had the same experience with some guy turning away. Just brush it off and don't let someone else ruin your day.

I haven't drivin my E body in 15 years. When I tell a guy I own one I get **** heaped on me by the ton. Civil convo goes out the window and the **** stick starts swinging on me, just for the mention of owning a E body Cuda.

And when I tell you I own a rolling bucket of rust for an E body, I ain't kidding!

The moral of the story is,
"Humans suck!"

Yeh we do. I really appreciate this site and for the men and women that give out free advice and encouragement no matter what it is.

Try this:

Tell the 'Cuda owner that you think his Barracuda is cool. When he corrects you and explains that he owns a 'Cuda and not a Barracuda, act all dumb, point to the nameplate on the dashpad, and get him to explain that. You can do that to seven different guys at the same show.

Fun for all the family :)

I guess I've never thought the "lesser thans/ greater thans" way of thinking. I don't understand it, I don't look for it. I may go to a local car show, but I have never entered anything into one. A compliment is nice, but in the end I've always done my cars the way I like 'em. E body, A body, or K car. whatever they are doing, I'm glad they are enjoying the hobby. And if they "snob", I don't have the time, and neither to I have place in my life to allow them to affect it.

Ewww... You have a K-car.... Yuck....

No E body and I didn't enter in the show It was closed registration so I snuck in would rather drive it than sit behind it in a chair.

@Mr Gorsky

Oh yea, that helps a lot!!

Fan the flames, fan the flames!!!!

Possible joy for Demon owners like myself.....poking fun at the other cartoon decal models.

We all know Plymouth owners subconsciously feel inferior because they know their car was $25 cheaper than a Dodge back in the day, you could use this knowledge to great effect.

"Hey buddy, the evil Demon would roast a Road Runner and eat him as a snack!"

"Twister? What sorta lame decal is that??!!" :)

:poke::poke::mob:

I had a stuck up e-body guy give me the cold shoulder. He had a 70 T/A that had louvers on the back & I asked him some questions about the louvers & he asked if I have a louvered Challenger or 'cuda & I say no, a 67 Barracuda. He then just tells me to google it & walked over to his lawn chair. I continue to look the car over then get to the drivers windshield & look to see that's it's a 318 car. I told my wife really loud it's just fake T/A, it's really a base 318 car. He then gave me a go to hell look.

Not sure what some people's deal is.

E-body snobs, really? Welcome to FABO! Tell other sites you have an Early A or a Duster and listen for the crickets.....There maybe be a few inquiries about if it has a B/RB/Hemi in it but thats about as far as that will go. Whenever I go to a show and I see an early A or a true driver, I always try to ask a few questions to break the ice. If they are receptive, great! If they just glaze over and tell me they bought it restored, I usually tell them how much work was involved and move on. No reason to embarrass them further. The Early A crowd is usually very receptive to conversation. I commented to a new 64 Barracuda owner about their perfect headlight bezels and we talked for about 20 minutes about the cars, she ended up taking notes and my email address. I told her to look me up on FABO!

I stopped going to car shows for these exact reasons. I go to swap meets, but car shows are a waste of time. Bunch of rich a-holes comparing wankers. Definitely gets worse as the cars go up in value, but, it isn't exclusive to E bodies. Seems like most of the owners don't build their own cars and don't know a thing about them. But they'll crap on a daily driver that would leave their car in the dust just because it has a few dents or scratches. Screw 'em.

I am just about ready to stop taking my car to general car shows for several reasons:
1. You spend half the day asking people to stop practically climbing on your car.
2. Stupid people make rude comments about something; the wheels, color, engine, my dad had one like this but it had a hemi, Is that a Camaro, etc. BTW, I used to let the "My dad had a 69 Barracuda, but his had a Hemi" comment slide, but not any more. Even after a thorough explanation of available engines in 69, they will still insist that it was bought new with a hemi.
3. Not that I ONLY care about getting trophies (I know we are there to have a good time), but it does get old seeing rough fairly rough Camaros, Mustangs and rat rods getting awards when your fully restored A Body Mopar (or any Mopar for that matter) gets nothing. I went to a general show here in Topeka last year and there was a BEAUTIFUL 69 Charger. Even discounting my love for Mopars if was beautiful and flawless. It of course got nothing.
4. At many club sponsored shows, only club members get awards. The Classic Chevy car club in Topeka used to sponsor a BIG car show every year around Labor Day with proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy. After about 5 years of almost every single trophy going to club members, the show died away. Too bad, it was a really big show at first.

Maybe I just thrive on confrontation but I'd like to run into one of these elite types. I'd REALLY like to meet up with a checkbook restoration car guy.
Hey, nice paint work...Did you do it yourself?
No... Dan Panelbammer did the bodywork, Peter the Painter sprayed it. He only paints by appointment and referral.
The car sounded nice when you rolled in. What cam are you running?
Uhhh, Big Block Bernie built the engine. I think it is a purple shaft. Those are bad ***.
I see the wider tires....Built to corner well I guess. What size torsion bars? Sway bars?
Well, Dan the Chassis Man rebuilt the suspension. He is the best. Anyone that is anyone goes to him. I spent a ton of money on it.
Yeah, well the car is nice. Have you had it on a road course?
Oh, no...Cars like this are too nice to risk damage on a track like that.

i agree 100%. has been like that ever since mopars were the latest fad.. investment type guys not enthusiasts bought a mopar for the value in them not the love of them..

i remember at 19 and just getting into bringing a car to a show or cruise.. the older mopar guys would talk with ya and share knowledge with you.. we were the minority at events.. it was a brother hod of sorts.. still like that to a point these days but those old timers are dying off off slowly but surely. now the mopar market is flooded with checkbook guys that don't know much but what the car cost , they are the ones that look down at ya if that 5th digit isn't the big dollar digit or its just a measly a-body or god forbid you built a car how you wanted to not how it came from the factory...

in the end i don't really care. i have my group of friends that are all mopar enthusiasts and build and drive the hell out of our cars no matter what body style they are.

these days i rarely pay to go to a show.. i prefer stopping in at a cruise night, socializing for a bit, grabbing a bite to eat and going elsewhere... that paying $20 to practice professional parking for 6 hours waiting for a stupid *** 99 cent trophy just isn't for me...

i will say thought that jamies dart seems to get a lot of attention from people at cruises for some reason.. maybe its the color or something. who knows..

thursday night at that cruise i was at there was a little 4 door 64 valiant that got tons of attention.. that was cool to see the car getting some love..

Fug em.

Try owning a sedan, everyone goes full on 16 year old snob.

If anyone ever gives you **** for owning a sedan (and you're single) just tell em what I would.

More doors for more whores!

I like going to car shows to look at cars. But I doubt I'd ever put my scamp in one. For one I work on it and drive it for it to be fast. Not look good. Going fast is looking good in my book. And I get tired of some of the comments just driving it every day. I'm more than happy to talk about my car. Tell you what I got going on with it. Talk about your car. Or car's in general. I just don't have time for the "well back in my day..." or "well why doesn't it..." type ****. If you don't like the way my car is or what it does. Build your own the way you want.

WOW! That 64 more door is really freakin nice!

ya nice little cruiser.. guy has had it for a while.. remember seeing it years ago at another cruise.. i wanted to bullshit with the guy for a bit but everytime i stopped by he had someone talking to him about it..
