Refreshing 360 after 10 years....

Well the upgrading of the old engine is done...coming out in a couple of weeks with a new 410 going in...new K1 4 inch crank next to OEM 3.58 crank.

crank is in...piston on rods...I think i got the even bank pistons on backwards...at least in the picture...no spiro locks yet..so easy fix...LOL

Rest of engine...

Eddy heads originally cnc at hughes...updated last October by Brian at IMM after 7 yrs...installed 2.08 intake and performed necessary unshrouding of chamber for bigger valve..
Hughes 264/268 Flat tappet...Howards direct luber lifters.with 1.6 rockers...on non grooved shafts...lol...Eddy Victor intake..the old hooker 5204 headers..

next race Sept 8....

That's a nice combo, Tony... Best of luck.

So are you expecting any kind of learning curve with the new Power curve/torque curve?

You sure know how to party
Your not changing anything but the engine correct And wasn't the 360 running high 10's

The way I understand this, this is going to be pretty much the same as everything you had before except the longer stroke? Will there be any difference in compression?
You know I kind of jokingly pose this question between the two combinations on a thread I had and it seems the majority would think that you're old combination wood have more power? Now course I don't want to bring up any crazy arguments and start any of my brand of insanity on your thread so if that's starts I'm out. But with that said I'm extremely curious to see what kind of difference the extra stroke makes at the drag strip. In my personal opinion you bringing and posting timeslips from the Dragstrip Carries 10 times more weight then anybody running there neck or any dyno.
I think you mentioned your first race on September 8th, I'm setting my calendar on my phone to to revisit this thread on September 9th.
( likely I will before then but that one I don't wanna miss)

Good question...expecting it to run faster then the 360...lol

yes..the 410 will have more compression...and little more camshaft....Yes..it will be using the same heads off the 360......yes..the heads will probably be the limiting higher rpm horse power....BUT...that is to say the 360 was using all of the head...and we did upgrade the head with a 2.08 valve....

Yes....as I say...the clocks don't lie...So come 9/8 we will see...and even better...Nov 3-4 we will be in Bakersfield...Should see the best air ever for that car.....Hopefully by then we should have the bugs worked out as there are 3 bracket races in Sept plus a TnT....

Actually that 360 had run 10.30s in Bakersfield...but last sept it blew a head gasket there...and I decided to refresh the engine...so now the refreshed engine is having issues as it apparently having issues with ring seal....just got done doing a leak down...no. 8 has 25% leakage...and another 3 cylinders are right at 10%....and it is all blowing pass the rings...with the 360 being ..060 I am not wanting to spend anymore time and money on it....so we are moving on.....

And the pistons on the even bank were on backwards....corrected today and spiro locks are on...busted the rod caps off...going to wipe down the bores again...and hopefully get this short block together by this weekend.

also putting a 408 that i bought the short block a couple of years ago back in service.....it is heading for the 71 Duster....not sure on it project date of race...as car needs to get painted....has MP forged crank scat rods and same KB744 .030.....same hughes cam..and shady dell ported eddy heads..

My mind goes to the possible added torque at launch and maybe possible suspension adjustments or something?
LOL, I'm already overthinking it LOL

J par..... relax :D.... the extra cubes makes more power BUT.... this is not comparing the difference in stroke because the stroker will have more cam and compression. Thus, it will eliminate any chance of having a fair comparison of what the extra stroke was worth.

Yup, different cam and compression was my first clue also.
I'm sure that's been done somewhere.

He know's chassis, gear's & logs response according(ly). ..It isn't easy, simple , or cheap?. Heck no, it isn't.. And that's truth...

Well...it started off great today...I never had a crank turn so easy...wow..
i began knocking in the pistons on the odd side of the engine...everything goes great..turns over so smooth...
start on even bank...wow...it does not turn over so easy...and after two pistons...houston we got a problem...
I know the crank needs narrow rod bearing...and I thought that is what i ordered from Sealed Power 8-7125CH..but taking a second look at the bearing they appear not to be narrowed...ok...so have i have set of Clevite CB481HN coming from summit ...hopefully tomorrow..

I'll be using that same Hughes cam when I rebuild my 410...and shady dell ported heads (mine are 57cc)...possibly the same pistons (have not decided yet between KB, Icon, and Wiseco). Should be real close to the same. I'm hoping it will run 10.30's or better, but only time will tell.

new bearing...no problem....moving on to degree in cam......1st try....with lining up the dots....106...looking for 104.....with correct it up this weekend as it was too hot in the garage even with the swamp cooler blowing me...LOL

With the blocking being squared for the 360 crank...I had the machine shop machine cut it to 9.545...about .015 cut...pistons are .003 in the hole....going to have some pop...

71 Duster goes in Saturday to begin body work....

Top end makes the power, displacement decides where that power is made (powerband) and gearing matches the car abilities to the engines powerband.

To me the rise of 408's is due to most don't want to run more gear than 3.55.

Eg. Say 450 hp 360 and 408
408 500 lbs-ft x 3.55 = 1775 lbs-ft
360 433 lbs-ft x 4.10 = 1775 lbs-ft
360 433 lbs-ft x 3.55 = 1537 lbs-ft
