I'm just getting the race car running and kinda need (want) to do some pulls but I dont have air filters. Just how bad of an idea is that?

The street i wanna drive on seems clean but it is a city street...

My carb scoop does have a screen to keep out birds and small children.

:)

Damn, I wouldn't do it. Suck up a nut/bolt and you just wasted a lot of time and money! 65'

I’ve ran cars without them. Never seemed to notice any issues. Of course, dust, water and whatever else COULD get in there. And the only thing I’ve ever dropped down the intake was the wing nut for the air cleaner. So I guess you would no longer worry about that scrambling away.

Go for it, it'll be fine.
On a daily driven street car I wouldn't run without an air filter in the long term, but for a few tuning passes it will be fine. As far as race cars and track runs, not many race cars run filters anyway. If you are really concerned, stretch a leg of your wife's pantyhose over the scoop.
Race car engines get torn down so often that long term wear from particulates is the least of their worries!

I got a small piece of metal in a Corvette / 327, years ago -- no damage, but I had to pull a head, that was a PITA.

You are worrying about "dirt in your carb" while you race on a city street ? Good image maker for you and us and God help you if something happens and someone gets hurt or worse. Too many people taking chances on the street.. Lost someone to a Street racer....

The only thing Mine ever sucked up was a couple Chebbies. LOL. Didn't hurt the motor but I had to pull em out of the tail pipe .

Sorry for your loss.

Have you ever exceed the speed limit?
Be honest now.

We never ran air cleaners in high school but we don't have dirt roads in So. Cal. Motors never lasted long enough to get ring damage. K&N without the oil is about as good as a pair of panty hose, the triangle screen air cleaners are about as good as an SOS pad.

You have miss read into the post and made a leap into what is in your imagination.
No where did he say he was street racing.
You assumed!

I guess I have a different understanding of what this means. It sounded like " I'm just getting the Race car running and (want) to do some "pulls". The "street" I wanna drive on seems clean but it is a city street ..."
And Cope, I have done bad things. So that makes it OK ?. I am older and wiser now. It only takes one time.

No it dont make it ok
I'm just saying dont point fingers.

You drive an old car, that in it self is unsafe by today's standards.

Judge your self and let me worry about my self and my judgment.

I drive a 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T. The current 73 Challenger has been sitting for 30 years. Just a little good advice. If it feels like I am pointing fingers, maybe the shoe fits....

run it , it'll be fine , just stay out of any construction zones , they like to throw dirt around. I bought a couple of cheap little air cleaners just to tune with before I stuck the birdcatcher on

Why not buy and install the biggest k/n u can fit and just run it (or them) all the time. I`ve got a 14x4 1/2" k/n on mine.

I don't know man, as I built a bike for a local guy and when he came to pick it up it didn't have an air cleaner on it.
First thing out of the driveway he jumps on the throttle and does a nice big over backwards at about 45 and eats ****, trashing the bike and himself in the process.
Running without a filter is obviously dangerous, and I wouldn't want that happening to you or your car.

Where do you live again? In the Yukon territory. Or north pole? Go get one from an auto parts store or order one. All this time with this thread swirling in the toilet on its way down, you'd have had one by now:wtf:

Do you see air filters on Top Fuel cars? NO! Yours is kinda close. Just saying.
:D

Just go do what you're going to do. You don't anybodies permission.

Do half and half...drive to vatozone without one, and home with one on there
