So I'm currently working on my first build and I have an engine to put in the car but i am not familiar with transmissions and not sure what i should put behind it. I want to put a manual but its not mandatory as the car did not originally have one. I just looking for something that will not break and can be easily rebuilt to perform better. planning to put it in my 71 scamp with a 5.7 hemi, planning on going for a street/strip kinda thing but also want to be able to cruise decent. Looking for any and all suggestions, tips, knowledge.

I installed a new silver sports four speed auto the a41. It gives me a hell of a launch and is getting 20mpg on the highway (I have a 392 in front of it). Yes try are costly but it's modern technology.

If money is tight find a 727 and have it rebuilt with some shifter kit and bolt her up. You'll not have an issue with it at all. The sister 904 tranny is weaker.

Installing a four speed or more make the mod more challenging since your not a four speed original car. Linkage, bell housing, tunnel work etc.

My friend suggested a 727 as well since we couldn't find a 4 speed manual. Any suggestions on a good rebuild kit for them.

A-500 fit great in my Duster. A-518 is a little bigger like a 727 but still very doable. Several threads on the subject here. Including mine.

I was happy I got my rebuild kit from a local Parts distributor because when parts were miss packed I didn't have to send for them I can just go down and get them. About $120 or so.

I just put mine in and finished wiring it up...trying to get some front end and engine work completed before I try it out! I’m looking forward to seeing how it runs...I bit the bullet and got the Stage 3 one so in the future I won’t have to upgrade the trans if I go up in motor!

With this much motor, and the lightweight scamp, and the skinny wheel wells,...... A) you don't need a manual trans, and B) any automatic will do, so C) Stuff a regular A 904 in there and a 2800, and 3.23s minimum and call it done. ...... unless your Hemi has a big cam and lousy cylinder pressure , then add more gear, to get you off the line .
