He swaps from dual to single exhaust to try and get the 273 commando sound, but he has a 340. Lots of 4 speed action after the exhaust swap.
High RPM shifts at the 31:45 mark.

Is it common knowledge that the "273 commando sound" is something special?

I enjoyed the video. The exhaust note at idle sounds pretty much the same to me. And how is the owner duplicating the factory 273 Commando sound by omitting the front muffler?

The first hp 273's either had no muffler or a straight through muffler. Apparently the combination was too loud and they used a low restriction Hemi style muffler. It had a distinctive sound because it was a single system. The original system from what I have read was a scavenging designed crossover pipe with a 2 1/2" intermediate pipe into a low restriction Hemi style muffler and a 2 1/4" tail pipe into a bright tipped resonator. I have heard some of the early resonators weren't chrome but just painted. I think some NOS pieces have been found. Accurate LTD makes a nice replacement system for these cars.

What an Idiot, a 340 that sounds like a 2 7 3 in a fish, He must be a trust fund baby! He should be worrying about the carb and hard starting along with the massive smoke. I give this idiot an X

The early systems had a 2 1/2 straight through muffler, followed by the 2 1/4 straight thru resonator. It is a nice alternative to duals if you lack space or want to simplify your system.

Here's a little info on that straight through muffler. Commando Exhaust

I didn't see the point to what he was doing, it is common knowledge that every bend, kink, muffler has an impact on the sound along with the engine details. A 340 will not sound like a 273 with the same system, not to install mufflers when you are trying for sound? He would have been better off leaving the dual exhaust and mufflers and installing two resonators.

Mike, Where does the link go? My computer cancelled it. I have original 66 and 67 Commando Y pipes, NOS mufflers and a resonator. I know what they are. I also know the straight thru was changed to a real muffler in 66? I have that one also. I believe the 67 muffler was part of the intermediate pipe. Accurate made the exhaust on my 66 Barracuda but they made me a straight thru front muffler. It is not the same as Original but it works. Thanks
