1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Finally the transmission showed up from NBV, Norrorts Bil & Vanservice AB. As always top notch restoration of the tranny. Testdriven and adjusted!
Today it was time to bolt the engine and tranny together. I really like how easy it is to bolt it together and bolt and adjust the kick-down. However when I teared this combo apart I found out that the transmission cover was gone. I started to search my inventory today but could not find one.
So if someone out there has a transmission cover plate for a 904 tranny I'm interested.

Ulf. I see you have your cooler lines installed as well. One thing I have not done yet, so I better get on it before I slide the assembly under the car. Looks nice all the way around. Thanks again for the help on the parts. sgrip65

Great to get th rear seat back into place. Ut before I found out that the cross bar holding the rear seat is stamped with the order number on the fendertag and the radiator support. Never seen that before. Anyone else?

Hello Ulf. Fun to follow along on your build. What is your ETA on this build? Next year, when we visit Sweden, it will be great to see your Mopars. Best to you, and thanks again for the quality parts you provided for my build. sgrip65

I hope to have it ready within 4 to 6 weeks. Waiting for parts from US. So you and your wife can take a ride in it as Don and his wife will do! It will be awesome.
Glad to help you out.

Today the heater was done with all the internals new. The A/C unit is almost done. Some paint and we're good to go.
However is little bumper for the fan is cracked so if any FABO member has one for sale I'm all in for one.
Cjeck the shifting and parking cables. The shifting cable is almost broke so I'm looking for a good shifting cable as well!

Today the shipment from Eric turned up. I almost forgot what great jobs he performs.
Now I could build the factory choke unit looking like new.
Tomorrow the assembly of the horn relay with production date 444 can take place. (Week 44, 1964) and also the hood opening mecanism.

Ulf. Wow.....what more need be said. Great stuff going on with your project. sgrip65

Ulf. That engine looks great. Original Mopar Parts all the way. Nice stuff. sgrip65

NOS y-pipe feels great. Fits like a glove. Next project is almost done and that's get rid of the three layer paint in the engine compartment. Someone has won Wold Championship in drilling!! There are 14 small holes that needs to be welded.

Ulf....clean as clean can be. Looks nice, been there done that, takes a while to clean up the old paint. Mine had the paint plus someone sprayed the entire car with Sound deadening rust prevent. It took 5 gallons of aircraft stripper to get that stuff off. Hope yours did not have too much of that stuff. That NOS Y-pipe is a true find. How does the inside look where the left and the right side are joined together? Just curious if they filed the joint on the inside back in the day. Keep up the good work....as I said, these cars will live on for future generations due to the work restorers do. Nice stuff going on there in Sweden with your cars. sgrip65

I saved the driver and passenger head pipes from the 65 Barracuda I parted out. The fit like your proverbial glove so I will reuse them on the wagon with new mufflers. I have a set of NOS 68/69 Dart 340 tailpipee
I hope to use as well.

Soon I will be turning the wagon around for all the modifications on the passenger side. Then it’s sandblasting time for the engine compartment!

Ha! No extra holes to be welded in my engine compartment. I needed to drill the holes for drier bracket, water valve assembly and for the 2 straps that secure the AC hose to the driver’s inner fender. I did drill another hole to mount my headlight relay and fuse module.

This is a photo of the original valve cover bolt from my '65 Dart Charger. Mine may have been chrome plated at one time, but now appear to be stainless.

Just a sidebar SEMS manufacturing pioneered the manufacture of bolts with built in washers. Lots of companies nowadays make them as the patent has long run out. Most people still refer to em as "SEMS" bolts no matter who makes em. Love the dartcharger vert. Super rare, a great piece to park next to your 65 dartcharger hardtop.

I would love to find a new set of chromed SEMS bolts for the valve covers.
Actualy now it is three Dart Charger 273s!!

What if you were able to find them with that style lettering and swirl looking mark behind the lettering but unchromed, and just get them chromed? Maybe post a pic in the wanted section of Fabo with exactly what your looking for and the thread size needed, then just send them to a chromer. I think may have 1 or 2 of those in the right thread in my "magic bolt box" but in black oxide finish. You will need at least 10 of em though. I can check if you want. Maybe Don can ship them to you. Have not heard from Anders. Hope he is doing ok.

I can't recall aeing unchromed bolts. But I will search tonight. For my other hardtop I was able to find new sets on Ebay but they seems to be gone!

I think the ones i have might be body bolts with a wider washer. Your needing the engine bolts with smaller outside diameter washer. I am guessing that valve cover bolts from even slanty engines from around 1964 would have SEMS bolts with that style head, as they were probably advertizing their company on the bolt heads back then. I bought a huge bolt lot from RatRodAl from a bronse 67 fastback he stripped, since my sons 69 notch didnt come with any bolts as it was a half stripped out car. As i was weeding out the really bad bolts and putting the rest in evaporust to clean em up i saw a few with that marking. I found one marked with 67 bronse metallic paint, I thought it was unusual but maybe not as on the assembly line they probably have huge bins of hardware for assembly, and that one may have been in the bolt bin until it was grabbed and used in 1967. I believe by 67 they were marked with an S or an E, and had 3 dashes, and sometimes nothing marking the bolt head. Some by late 60s early 70s had a mark that resembles a boat anchor on them along with 3 lines or dashes.

Today I did the last paint removal. Tomorrow it's time to weld the 12 holes.
But when closer examination I found a special stamping that I never seen before. On the upper cowl is a stamping TS 45. Has anyone seen this before? I was wondering if it was the suppliers number on this stamped plate. Not sure if Chrysler stamped this one in their own production. Or if TS is the supplier and 4 stands for year 1964 and 5 stands for month of production.
Any guesses?

Finally, my son Kevin helped me weld the 14 holes that were drilled during history.
After masking and a good cleaning I sprayed the engine compartment with a echy primer and what a great primer.
Next will be to add some filler on the welds and sand it down.
I will also glass bead the bolts for the fenders as well as the pins and bolts in the front of the fender which make the assembly line workers to hang the fenders on the body. The hood adjustment pins nuts and the tiny cover plate in each corner will also be done. But since I bougjt this car from the previous owner in Novato, CA the fendertag hasn't been mounted. But tomorrow after it has been glass beaded it will go back just as it used to.
Then it will be time to spray the yellow paint.
I brought five samples of factory paint chips to the paint shop and they did a computer scanning and found a yellow paint called McKenzie bus yellow. Sound like a color from down under! It was spot on compared to the five samples.
