1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

-
I will be good on my dolly- it is 26.5 inches wide by 45 inches long. I will want to change the fixed casters to independent ones as is one set.

I appreciate the offer on your last one or one of the new ones arriving in a few weeks. It would be nice if I could remember where mine is!

Restored the PCV valve today. It was a mess inside.
Next was the air cleaner. There is a different curve on the center loop. Then there is a pressed line above the nipple. Anyone seen this before?

Could someone had this (non-original) air cleaner chromed? I've never seen one like it. But then my air cleaner lid and oil filler top are not CA spec. They don't have the hose fitting. Either my car was sold outside California or someone changed it along the line...after 45-50 years, who knows?

I think his DartCharger was an early build and could be that was the only style available.

I’ve had both the CA-spec and non-CA air cleaners/oil fill caps and other than the hose fitting, they are identical. Also The 65 383 4 barrel lid and some CA-spec slants with a 1 barrel base are identical except they were painted black

Your Dartcharger should have a chromed air cleaner och breather hose since it was sold in CA only. So both air cleaner lid and the breather cap should have a nipple for the hose in between.

Since my cold is worse then ever I thought I should do the upper radiator hose today.
The parts manual for right partnumber, two potatoes, one knife, one can of white paint and one hour was all it taked.
Progress, here we come!

Ulf, weren’t there a number of kits any dealer in or out of CA could order to replicate the DartCharger. That could explain his non-CA air cleaner setup.

True but I think Jim has a factory Dartcharger

Yes, that's true Don. But Jim's car is a factory Dartcharger hardtop. That's why I'm pretty sure how they were ewuipped. But I know that Chrysler didn't always followed the guide lines......!

Mine has been through so many owners, there's no telling what it came with. It's been painted tan, then back to yellow, the vinyl top changed from white to black, the engine was rebuilt with 8:1 pistons, a 318 intake manifold, carburetor from a 383...it was a mess.

Your doing a great restoration on your car Jim!

Factory a.c. and 273 HP. Fuel line pictures.

Thanks Retractable for the pictures. This is how it turned out. I even found a picture on a Dartcharger with 273 hp and a/c. The filter is in the same place as your car.
According to the partsmanual the is just"use as required". Nothing specific on 273 hps! Culd that mean that when the engine/tranny/front end assembly was getting ready that the staf took a line and bended it on place or that the fuel lines was pre-bent?

Just done for the day. I recieved an NOS left exhaust manifold gasket today from Rich, SSVDP. It was in mint condition.
So glass beading, new bolt and washers and a new coat of paint. Looks great to me.

My original fuel line on the '65 Dart I bought in 1966 did not have a/c but had a fuel line similar to what you have pictured. I remember because I twisted the line accidentally trying to remove it and recall purchasing a replacement from the dealer's parts department. My current Dart Charger had a rubber line from the filter to the carb, but as I mentioned earlier, my car has been worked on carelessly over the years.

Jim I have pipes so I can bend a fuel line pipe and send it to you.

Did some progress yesterday before one of the kids showed up. Restored the a/c pump, new gaskets and o rings. Almost done with the engine. Hopefully the tranny shows up soon.
Next will be the underhood area.

Did some paint splots with potatoes. 20 minutes and we are ready to go!
Anyone know what the white W stands for as well as the yellow round paint splot?

Next step was to mount the NOS spark plugs Champion. I found a nice set of spark plug wires that was added. Date coded of cause!!

Today I was able to add the ignition coil and the bracket back to the intake manifold. I found a date coded coil from 1965 and it will do the job.
Taking the steering pump apart I found out the the pump unit was painted as a complete assembly, not apart.
Since I bought this car I haven't had apart the heater and a/c unit. Now was the time and I quickly found out why it didn't work properly! Most gaskets were shot, air leaks here and there and the unit wasn't mounted properly. One of the bumper that holds the heater motor needs to be replaced. Anyone know if these ones can be bought new?
So next thing to do is to order a complete restoration kit for the heather and a/c unit from DMT. Excellent stuff.
Tomorrow the brake booster assembly will come off and then we are ready to take off all the paint inside the engine compartment. Life is good!

In the worst snowstorm for years I was eager to do something besides putting a log on the fire. The last thing under the hood was to remove the power brake booster. I was so glad when I saw it has been restored back in the day.
Just need glass beading and a new coat of paint.
I also searched through Ebay and found out the 1959 Cadillac and early 1960 Cadillac had the same power brake booster as 1964 to 1966 A-body cars had.
Thanks to that they sell complete kits so you can restore the booster!
