Many of you know I used to have a -6 Roadrunner

When I got to NAS Miramar (San Diego) in spring of 70 I had bought a 63 Chev SS. Had it I guess a year, traded to a "Dad" who had bought his son a 69 383 RR and had "got into trouble." So I upped some boot and traded him. Had that car awhile, was saving up my meager Navy pay, and talked to my friend George who had this marvelous 70 440-6 RR. I was telling him I was going to go through the brakes, new tires, and new paint on the 69

"Don't spend all that, I'm getting married and selling the 70. BUY IT"

So I did

When George owned it, nearly new

So I had the car a bit, and one day, stopped in traffic in National City, CA a couple of girls in a Dat--soon ran right into the rear.

Bumper, both rear quarter panels, maybe the trunk lid. REALLY screwed it up, considering

Then, later, some guy ran into it in the barracks parking lot. No license, he had been out to sea. I did sort of collect for that----ruined the left side quarter panel

So I get out of the Navy and it looked like this in 74

I had a local body guy fix everything and painted it a dark green gold metallic. And later sold it to "some local kid."

The local kid's brother (they lived on a hill) parked his Jeepster, which slipped the brake, rolled back and TOTALED THAT SAME QUARTER PANEL

At some point my old friend from San Diego came up N here for a visit, we were going up the "Baldy Mountain Road" and I pointed up on the side of their hillish driveway, and said, "check out that Plymouth."

He says "THAT HAS A DENT in the same place as YOUR OLD CAR"

"That IS MY old car."

"THOSE DUMMIES PAINTED RIGHT OVER THAT DENT!!??" (Last time he'd seen it was limelight)

"No, I had it fixed and painted, then sold it to them, and his brother's Jeep ran into it"

So my friend had to attempt to TOTAL UP the number of replacement rear quarter panels had been on that car. Bear in mind this is maybe, 1978?? so the car is only 8 years old!!

1....Original factory quarters
2....Both replaced due to National City rear-end crash
3....Left side replaced again due to parking lot non-driver
4....One more left side due to brother's Jeep

Sounds like my dart. About 2 years old left rear quarter sideswiped by a semi trailer, slide hammer and bondo. In early 80s T boned left rear quarter again by teen at an intersection, r&r quarter with used quarter.

Passenger door sat on by a horse on the city street.

Left front fender had a run-in with a pole and lost.

Of the 4 members of the family who have driven the car I'm the only one to not have an accidental with it.

Really not bad for 318,000 miles

I wonder if the car is still around

That is a mystery. The kid I sold it to turned out to be a real jackass. At some point a couple years later it just vanished. I could get nothing out of him or his brothers. One of them said something about "pushed over a cliff." Someone else said something similarly vague. I think it was involved in a (maybe serious) hit and run, and got buried, or "pushed off a cliff."

When I bought it, the original owner gave me the factory manual, which had the VIN jotted in the first couple pages. At some point the first couple pages disappeared over the years with handling and storage. I may have the VIN on an old emissions ticket I "was presented with" in San Diego. I don't know, offhand, where that might be

Did you buy it new?

That is COOL. I'm sure not many have been "in the family" like that

I remember a friend who had a beautiful black 68 Coronet RT that had the most God awful dent right on top of the passenger quarter panel. A metal Christmas tree stand fell out of the rafters of their garage and crushed it! I never store anything above my cars because of that ugly dent

It was probably resold in the last decade as an all original paint car... lol
