Greetings - I have a 66 Valiant all original 225 with power steering I am going to convert to manual steering & V8 so will factory center link work with V8 and manual steering set up ?

Also pros and cons to using adapter mounts for 225 to 318 or just install a V8 crossmember
Im rebuilding front end anyway so can go either route

Thank you

The Slant 6 Center Link won't clear the Oil Pan of a V-8...
Since your pulling it all anyway just drop your K-Frame out the bottom and Sell it all!
The V-8 K-Frame should be easy enough to get...

Thanks again

If I buy a V8 centerlink and adapters could I use my slant crossmember with the 318 ?
Just curious

Yes 66 K frames are the same. Quite a few of the 66 cars came with the V-8 center link even when equipped with the slant six so measure yours to make sure it is actually the slant center link.

steering column shaft is different length with manual steering...and pitman arm. maybe it'll come with the box.

As stated 63-66 K-frames are the same for /6 and V8. 67-up they are different.
Someone was making the V-8 center link.

It's the center shaft and coupler that are different between the power and manual steering gears. The rest of the original column you can use. All the steering linkage is the same between the 6 and 8 too (including the pitman and idler arm), except for the center link.

I assume you know about all the other parts you will need doing a /6 to small block swap? Engine and transmission complete with all the proper brackets and pulleys, V8 radiator big enough for the extra cooling needed, wiring mods, better braking, better real axle, exhaust system, etc.

Actually, it might. It all depends on which mounts, which pan...how the car was put together.....all that. I had a 65 Valiant slant car I put a 360 in years ago. I didn't even know then about the different center links. Mine cleared fine. It was close, but it cleared. There have been others with similar results.

That's a heck of a time to find out it doesn't fit, when you have the engine dangling on the cherry picker.....

Thank you - good to know I like to use the push button trans column or manual column so selector isn't up top.

I will get photos next week of what I have and share so you veterans can advise me etc . I'm obtaining tires now that hold air since car was setting since 1990 car cleaned up nicely and I can wait to get 225 running and check vitals so I can sale it and trans .

Most of this build is bolt together but trans and bellhousing want be stock and im sure I will need guidance with clutch pedal modification etc . I bought pedal assembly also and solid motor mounts will be using a 318 block as my platform.

What are you going to do about front brakes? The slant six probably has 9 inch brakes. The V-8 K-member (if complete) could very well have 10 inch brakes. The spindles are different, but can be swapped. That would be an improvement. Even if going to disc brakes, most setups require using the 10 inch spindles. I have a 66 "A" body complete steering/suspension/10 inch brake K-member, which I am "bench" rebuilding (all steering/brakes), then will swap into my 64 slant six, 9 inch brake Valiant as a complete unit.
