At least at some of these races. Buy one entry for 400.00 and get another one free. Buybacks first round 125.00. Buyback second round 100.00. It’s not about being the best racer anymore. It’s about being young enough to double enter all weekend and have lots of money in your pocket. For guys that have never driven 200-500 miles to a race and be at the track for four days you will never understand how just one race entry takes being in good condition. Then there’s the drive home. Warming up your car at 7am and racing going on till 2-4am. I love it but even if you don’t race both entries you are up and ready all day long.

I can see you point. Does the pot go up and up with each buy Back?

Well then I agree 100%

not fair. single Knock out. Maybe take iP cash days style street racing instead!?

I have never raced for one main reason.
I can’t get myself to pay a bunch of money to possibly break my car 100’s of miles from home.
I do drive it 100’s of miles at times to visit out of state family and such though.
Also wouldn’t mind following along on some of the race week or like events just for the drive and spectating.

Don’t get me wrong I have no problem with first round buybacks as everyone needs one once in awhile and if you tow that far you want to race. I don’t double enter because we have this to rely on. It’s also good for the tracks and promoters but come on now second round buybacks is getting a little nutty. Why don’t we just have buybacks up to and including the finals.

That’s not racing that’s driving to a track, making a pass, and driving again to another track. Most of the time it’s technically a test n tune with an engine you bought from a builder a state away from you. Since this has nothing to do with real racing it should have its own post.

Just commenting on some of the cost and risk involved in “real racing”.
I rarely post at all, let alone in your posts.
I do however keep up on your adventures.

John your correct double entry can be workout. I'm going to hit one of theses big dollar footbrake races sooner or later. But it's got to be a little closer.

Ya it’s bad enough one day but a weekend wipes out even these kids.

Call me old...but I am NOT a fan of buybacks. Furtherance of "everybody gets a trophy" mentality (even though we don't race for trophies). You go to the starting line, give it your best shot, and live with how you and your car performed. Is that bad?

I did a 1st round buyback last year for the first time. Felt odd with the guy that put me on the trailer seeing me in the staging lanes. Went 4 or 5 rounds and into the finals (and slept!). Didn't feel like it used to as I knew I "really" didn't belong there...at least in my mind.

2nd round buybacks? Like PBR said, why not all the way to the finals - then we would never have a race to conclude? No such thing as a "winner" with this type of nonsense going on.

Double entry? Just as bad or worse. Money grab is all it is.

I don't think it has anything to do with everyone gets a trophy... it's just whoever is running the event milking every penny they can out of people.

I've never done a buyback, just seems wrong to me, win or lose, I take whatever I get. I got beat in the 5th round once by a guy that I had knocked out in the 3rd round, left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I know the owner and manager at Keystone Raceway Park very well and if we didn’t have first round buybacks we wouldn’t be racing for 1000.00 payout. Trust me they need this to survive and pay decent. And if you don’t pay decent you will really lose racers in today’s world. Closed track will and do happen every year. My next closest track is double the mileage

^^^^ You would know. I have always raced for modest sums as the thrill of competition means more to me than the $$. Remember, I'm just a foot-brakin' fool running in the lower 11 sec category. If I thought I could make $$ at this game, somebody please wake me up. I'd be one hungry dude if I had to win to eat!!

Looks like you would pick the 800.00 class. Lots of these guys run my class too.

I like track rentals. I like to drive my car and improve it's potential. It also lets me spend lots of time on the track. Not in the pits and staging lanes.

I said what your title says, about 40 years ago for different reasons. They killed MP and some other classes I was into, high priced Snell approved helmets need replacing every few years, seat belts that look like new with just a few hours use, etc.

Back racing again, after 33 years absence for one last time following retirement, but old, race only, class car with cage, big slicks and go fast stuff parked, now running simple 12.80s car that's street legal on drag radials, good enough.

Seems like all the big $$ races the majority of racers are doubled entered anymore. I get the purpose and benefit of buybacks from the promotor/track stand point. I'm guessing some promotors figure a certain % of racers will buy back so they may base their payouts on that, but on a normal race day if the pay is based off 1st round car count and everyone buys back and it doesn't change the payout, all that is, is $ in the tracks pocket. I don't care who you are, the more passes you make the better chance you have. The sport is growing more from a working man sport to who wants to shell out the most $$ for entries, etc. I say do away with double entries and buybacks and have a 2nd chance race. Wonder the last time a big $ race was won buy a single entry non buy back?

This is our local track $5,000 to win guaranteed in pro and $1,500 guaranteed to win in footbrake weekly. I like the way racing is going in our area.

Not nocking that flyer, but that seems to be the new norm for some places. They advertise a nice/decent winner purchase, but that's about it. I'd personally rather have a smaller winner purse and distribute the funds to more racers, but seems a lot of racers focus on the winner purse #, until they go 4-5 rounds and don't get squat, than they get all PO'd.

A lot of racers take it upon themselves to do a little split. Some do, some don’t.

I have friends that double enter the big money races , one who has Won several 10,20 etc. grand races told me how much he spends on entry fees and double entrees and I couldn't believe it , but then again he Wins a lot. To rich for my blood and I don't have the confidence in my driving on a full tree. 5/10ths pro tree is different I still won't enter a big money race with that tree if there are any but I was in two finals last fall and did a split both times one 50/50 the other 60/40 IMO the amount in a split is usually more than the r/u money is , with the split including winner and runner up money combined for the total for the split. Actually my opponent in the 60/40 split told me he usually doesn't split but since I know him ( he owns a tree service company and he has done work for me a few times ) he agreed to the split . It was a good race I was 006 on the tree ( foot braking ) , he was 009 ( trans braking ) .. he was 2 over , I was 3 over for a 0050 MOV my mistake for lifting I would have ran dead on .
